The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, emergency food security, and water, sanitation and hygiene sectors.
Role and Responsibilities
Generic responsibilities:
Supervision and capacities building of warehouse team under his supervision
Implement NRC’s logistics policies and procedures with regards to warehouse management at Area office level.
Ensure compliance with NRC’s Logistics Handbook, other NRC policies and donor requirements in all procedures and processes.
Ensure anti-corruption, transparency, and cost efficiency principles in all processes
Implement a filing system/archive according to local requirements
Ensure warehouse management system are in place and followed at area level
Prepare monthly reports and sent to Logistics Coordinator
Specific responsibilities:
Be accountable for periodic cycle count as per the standard operating procedure to ensure that stock management system is adhered to by staff/storekeepers.
Lead in conducting fiscal year end stock inventories and ensure that effective stock inventory report
Assist programs to establish and implement a reliable stock distribution plan to avoid closed grant or expired items in the warehouses.
Provide on-going training and support to the storekeepers in their relevant functions and reporting.
Provide support to warehouse staff as required in managing and documenting the receipt, handling, storage, dispatching and reporting of goods through the NRC warehouse(s).
Maintain records/authorizations for warehouse staff designated to receive and dispatch goods.
Ensure warehouse and stocks are secure, well managed and documented.
Materials Receiving and Dispatch
Receive and document materials from suppliers and other sources
Inspect materials during receiving and update required documentation
Liaise with the Logistics Coordinator to advise Programs of potential inventory shortages and to provide update on stock levels
Inspect materials dispatched from the stores and update appropriate dispatch documents
Warehouse Documentation and Controls
Maintain the Warehouse activity book recording (i.e. Warehouse Register) for all outgoing and incoming receipts and activities.
Ensure Warehouse Authorization Schedule is up to date and display
Participate in, and provide accurate reports for Month-end counts exercise
Fully participate in 10% inventory cycle count for all stock
Conduct internal inventory checks and keep records of all records
Implement (FIFO, FEFO, LIFO) procedures for goods in the warehouse.
Ensure good arrangement of storage facilities with appropriate layout, and signs display in strategic locations
Assign tasks and supervise the working of casual laborers
Warehouse Safety and Security
Ensure physical security of the Warehouse by restricting visitors and any other unauthorized persons
Implement and ensure clear safety procedures.
Ensure the maintenance of warehouse building(s), fittings and equipment.
Ensure warehouse is regularly fumigated against pest, rats, rodents etc.,
Maintain and periodically service fire extinguishers
Requirements
Generic Professional Competencies:
Bachelor’s degree in supply chain management; professional qualifications on CIPs or any other supply chain related field.
Experience from working as Logistics Officer in a humanitarian/recovery context
Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
Fluency in English, both written and verbal
Office organization skills,
Computer skills (Microsoft Office)
Good communication skills
Capable of handling pressure
Fluency in English, Hausa is an asset
Context / Specific Skills, Knowledge, and Experience:
Familiarity with the logistics challenges and opportunities in the North-east Nigeria region, including infrastructure, transportation networks, and local supply chain dynamics.
Proven experience in managing logistics operations, including transportation, inventory management, warehousing, and distribution in a dynamic environment
Ability to think creatively and practically to identify logistical challenges and implement solutions that improve the efficiency and quality of logistics operations.
Skilled in conducting logistics needs assessments, evaluating transport and distribution requirements, and optimizing the supply chain to meet operational goals.
Expertise in key logistics areas such as transportation management, warehousing, inventory control, and distribution. Familiarity with core competencies in areas like humanitarian logistics or supply chain management would be an advantage.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively negotiate with suppliers, transportation providers, and internal teams to ensure seamless logistics operations.
Ability to lead and support logistics teams, fostering collaboration and ensuring that logistical tasks are carried out efficiently and according to operational plans.
Experience managing a high-volume, diverse logistics workload, with the flexibility to adjust to changing priorities and handle urgent operational issues as they arise
