Job Title: Electrician - Industrial
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
As an Industrial Electrician in the construction industry, you will be responsible for installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining electrical systems on various construction projects.
You will work on high-voltage and low-voltage systems, industrial machinery, and other electrical infrastructure required for the successful completion of construction projects.
The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in industrial electrical work, with a strong focus on safety, compliance, and quality craftsmanship.
Responsibilities
Installation and Wiring:
Install and configure electrical systems in new construction projects, including power distribution systems, lighting, electrical panels, and control systems.
Lay out electrical systems in accordance with project blueprints, drawings, and specifications.
Install conduit, wiring, and other electrical components in industrial and commercial buildings.
Maintenance and Repairs:
Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues in construction machinery, temporary electrical installations, and permanent electrical infrastructure.
Perform regular maintenance on electrical systems to prevent malfunctions and ensure reliability.
Repair or replace damaged wiring, components, and equipment to keep electrical systems in good working order.
Compliance and Safety:
Ensure all electrical work complies with local building codes, safety regulations, and company standards.
Adhere to OSHA and other safety protocols to maintain a safe working environment on construction sites.
Follow lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and ensure all electrical work is performed safely and with proper safety equipment.
Project Support and Collaboration:
Work closely with project managers, site supervisors, and other trades to coordinate electrical work and ensure timely project completion.
Provide technical support for the installation of electrical systems, including troubleshooting complex issues that arise during the construction process.
Assist in the layout and design of electrical installations in collaboration with engineering teams.
Testing and Troubleshooting:
Test electrical systems and equipment to ensure functionality and adherence to safety standards.
Diagnose electrical issues quickly and accurately, and determine appropriate repair or replacement solutions.
Use tools like multimeters, ammeters, and voltage testers to verify the operation of electrical systems.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain accurate records of electrical work performed, including inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
Update project documentation and electrical drawings as needed to reflect changes or updates to systems.
Report any issues or delays to the site manager, including safety concerns or equipment malfunctions.
Education, Qualification, and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent; completion of a formal apprenticeship or training program in industrial electrical work or construction electrical systems is required.
Minimum of 8 years of experience as an electrician, with a focus on industrial or construction-related electrical systems.
Experience working with electrical systems in commercial, industrial, or construction environments is preferred.
Skills and Competencies:
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in installing, maintaining, and repairing electrical systems and machinery in a construction setting.
Strong knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and best practices (e.g., NEC, OSHA, local building codes).
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals.
Licensing and Certifications:
Valid journeyman or master electrician license.
OSHA 10/30-hour construction safety certification is preferred.
CPR and first aid certification is a plus.
Additional Skills:
Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under tight deadlines.
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, as well as collaboratively within a team environment.
Strong communication skills to work effectively with colleagues, contractors, and project managers.
