Job Title: Transportation Equipment Mechanic
Location: Lagos
Job Summary
We are in need of a skilled and dedicated Transport Equipment Mechanic to join their maintenance team
The ideal candidate will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and servicing of a wide range of transport equipment, including trucks, trailers, and construction machinery.
The mechanic will ensure that all vehicles and equipment are in optimal working condition to minimize downtime and support our construction operations.
Responsibilites
Perform routine maintenance and preventive inspections on transport equipment, including trucks, trailers, and construction vehicles.
Diagnose mechanical and electrical issues and troubleshoot problems to determine the best repair solutions.
Repair and replace defective parts, such as engines, transmissions, brakes, electrical systems, and hydraulic components.
Conduct safety inspections to ensure equipment is compliant with relevant regulations and safety standards.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance and repair work performed on all equipment.
Collaborate with the fleet manager and supervisors to develop maintenance schedules and ensure timely servicing of equipment.
Operate diagnostic tools and software to assess equipment performance and identify potential issues.
Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are in good working condition.
Respond to emergency breakdowns in the field and perform on-site repairs when necessary.
Assist with the installation of new equipment and parts as needed.
Ensure that spare parts inventory is kept up-to-date and request additional parts when required.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent; formal training in mechanical repair or a related field is preferred
Minimum of 12 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of transport equipment (trucks, trailers, construction machinery).
Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, electrical systems, and automotive repair techniques.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment, hand tools, and power tools.
Experience with welding, fabrication, and general metalworking is a plus.
Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to work under pressure and handle emergency repairs efficiently.
Valid driver’s license and the ability to operate various types of transport equipment.

Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge related to heavy equipment and transportation vehicles.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and motivate a team.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
In-depth knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices for equipment maintenance.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
Proficient with fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
Ability to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in inclement weather.
Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods during inspections and repairs.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Forklift and heavy equipment operator certifications are a plus.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
