Team Purpose
The SHE Centre will serve as a ‘one stop shop’ transformative initiative creating a safe space for vulnerable AGYW.
All SHE enrollees will receive health and wellness services at inception and throughout their program at the Centre.
It is anticipated that the Wellness Centre will contribute to the AGYW remaining resilient, empowered, healthy and safe throughout their youth and adolescent phases of life by providing cross cutting wellness services including SRH, health education and counselling, screening and referrals as described below.
Job Purpose
A Clinical Psychologist or allied professional with relevant continuing professional certifications, the psychologist/mental health support tutor will have a wealth of experience to skillfully navigate the provision of mental health support to vulnerable adolescent girls and young women enrolled at the SHE centre.
The incumbent will equip individual enrollees with the basics of mental health-meaning and importance of Mental Health to adolescent girls and young women.
S/he will design, implement, and evaluate training programs that focus on addressing the mental health needs of the AGAYW.
S/he will play a vital role in helping individuals lead more fulfilling lives, navigate the critical and stormy nature of adolescence of the modern world, and achieve their personal and professional aspirations.
S/he will equip the participants with the knowledge of self with emphasis on self-esteem.
The incumbent will monitor and evaluate project activities, ensuring timely goals and objectives are met. They will work closely with relevant stakeholders to ensure project success.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Psychologist:
Delivering mental health training sessions on topics like meaning, adolescence, crisis, peer pressure, mental disorders, gratitude journal, social media, self/self-esteem, and stress management.
Facilitating group and individual mental health support sessions for enrollees at the SHE Centre
Assessing and counseling individuals experiencing mental health challenges.
Identifying, referring and offering interventions for attention problems.
Promoting healthy lifestyle choices and behavior modification
Educating participants on substance use dangers in managing mental health challenges.
Tailoring training programs to specific mental health needs.
Qualifications and Experience
The ideal candidate will hold an Advanced Degree in Psychology or a related field (Master's Degree Clinical Psychology is a plus)
An advanced Public Health Degree will be an added plus
Minimum of 3 years’ post-NYSC experience in developing country health care programs or program support functions is required.
Experience working in Lagos state and familiarity with critical stakeholders
Computer Literacy in Microsoft office
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Experience in program development and facilitation or training.
Knowledge of current educational and psychological trends.
Empathy, patience, and the ability to inspire and motivate young people are desirable
Fluency in written and spoken English, with competences in public speaking, stakeholder engagement and resource allocation.
Ability to communicate in the local language and good knowledge of the terrain would be an advantage.
