Established to address critical gaps, the AMCE Abuja is committed to providing world-class care through innovative research, development, and education.
The Centre will offer comprehensive services in oncology, haematology, cardiovascular care, and general healthcare across the continent, with plans for expansion. The construction phase, supported by global partners, precedes a phased rollout over six years, evolving into a 500-bed facility.
Set to commence operations in early 2025, this flagship facility in Abuja is a key part of Afreximbank’s network of healthcare facilities, actively countering brain drain, reducing medical tourism by offering advanced procedures such as stem cell transplantation and state-of-the-art treatments for various diseases, and fostering employment opportunities. The vision for the AMCE initiative is to shape a healthier and more educated future for Africa.
Job Purpose
The Employee Relations and Engagement Manager will be responsible for fostering positive employee relations, driving employee engagement, and ensuring a positive and productive work environment.
This role involves managing employee inquiries, resolving conflicts, and implementing initiatives to enhance employee satisfaction and retention.
Core Responsibilities
Employee Relations:
Manage employee relations issues, including grievances, disciplinary actions, and performance management.
Conduct investigations and resolve conflicts in a fair and timely manner.
Provide advice and guidance to managers on employee relations matters.
Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations.
Employee Engagement:
Develop and implement strategies to improve employee engagement and morale.
Plan and execute employee events, such as team-building activities, social gatherings, and company picnics.
Conduct employee surveys and analyze feedback to identify areas for improvement.
Organize employee events and activities to foster a positive work culture.
Promote employee recognition programs to reward and acknowledge employee contributions.
Performance Management:
Support the implementation of performance management processes, including goal setting, performance reviews, and coaching.
Identify and develop high-potential employees.
Provide guidance to managers on performance management best practices.
Work with managers to develop performance improvement plans and address underperformance
Provide career counseling and coaching to employees.
Employee Retention:
Analyze employee turnover data to identify trends and root causes.
Develop and implement retention strategies to reduce turnover.
Conduct exit interviews to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement.
Change Management:
Develop and implement change management strategies to minimize resistance and maximize adoption of new initiatives.
Communicate change initiatives clearly and effectively to employees at all levels.
Provide training and support to employees during periods of change.
Monitor the progress of change initiatives and make adjustments as needed.
Compliance:
Ensure compliance with employment laws and regulations, including equal employment opportunity, labor relations, and workplace safety.
Stay informed about changes in employment law and regulations.
Requirements
Educational Qualification:
Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
Master's Degree in human resources, Organizational Development, or a related field is an added advantage
Professional Requirements:
HR certification (e.g., CIPM, SHRM or HRCI) or any relevant certificate
Experience Requirements:
10-12 years’ progressive experience in handling employee relations issues, including investigations, disciplinary actions, and conflict resolution.
Experience in developing and implementing employee engagement strategies, such as employee surveys, recognition programs, and team-building activities.
Experience working in a global organization and managing employee relations across different cultures and time zones
Competency Requirements:
Knowledge Requirements:
A strong foundation in general HR practices, including recruitment, onboarding, and benefits administration.
Comprehensive knowledge in managing unionized workforces and negotiating collective bargaining agreements.
Skill Requirements:
Strong problem-solving skills
Excellent communication and strong leadership skills for coordinating with multidisciplinary teams.
Proficiency in HR information systems (HRIS) and HR technology.
