Program Description
The purpose of the $25-50M USAID Food Basket (Nigeria) Activity is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of selected value chains and markets by building capacities of agri-businesses, removing barriers to investments, and developing innovative financial products. The anticipated program will be based in Nigeria.
Position Description
We are seeking a Nutrition Manager for an anticipated USAID/Nigeria Food Basket activity.
The Nutrition Manager will be responsible for overseeing activities related to improving access to and use of diverse, safe, nutritious, and high-quality foods to improve nutrition.
This position will report to the Deputy Chief of Party – Technical (DCOP Technical) and be based in Nigeria (final location determine by solicitation), with travel throughout implementation areas in Nigeria, including but not limited to North-West States.
Responsibilities
Serves as the technical lead for all activities in the Nutrition pillar in areas such as improving access and use of diverse, safe, nutritious, and high-quality foods.
Provides expertise within the project in the selection of nutritious and diverse value chains; conducting or overseeing formative research among potential consumers to understand potential demand for nutritious foods, and providing expertise to the project on consumer behavior and food preferences, especially among women and young children.
Plans Social and Behavior Change activities with a focus on approaches relevant to the private sector; that is, informing private sector-led marketing strategies to increase the consumption of diverse, nutritious, and safe diets, especially among women and children.
Supports local partners and grantees carrying out activities under the Nutrition pillar.
Liaises with other donor-funded initiatives to build synergies and share lessons learned and best practices. Serves as a member of leadership team, setting a positive and professional tone for the team, collaborating closely with the other team leaders.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree and 12 years of experience, or Master’s degree and 10 years of experience.
At least 8 years of experience in managing and/or leading activities to improve nutrition for large-scale market systems development programs in West Africa, with at least three of those years working in Nigeria as a senior advisor or staff member.
Demonstrated expertise in human nutrition, especially women’s and children’s nutrition.
Understanding of behavior change approaches for improved dietary intake.
Knowledge of and experience with civil society organizations, government and private sector in Nigeria, with demonstrated understanding of local agricultural market systems, private sector engagement and nutrition is preferred.
Demonstrated ability to resolve sensitive and complicated work issues with senior high-level country counterparts, donor representatives, and senior-level staff.
Demonstrated skills in building, mobilizing, and leading multidisciplinary teams.
Proven ability to work under pressure, and with multiple concurrent demands.
Excellent communication, writing and interpersonal skills.
Excellent knowledge of MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel.
