We are seeking for a highly skilled and motivated Transportation Equipment Foreman (Transportation Equipment Technician Leader) to join our team.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and performance of all transportation equipment, including heavy trucks, trailers, and construction vehicles.
This leadership role involves supervising a team of technicians, ensuring optimal equipment functionality, safety compliance, and efficient use of resources to support our construction projects.
Responsibilities
Team Leadership and Supervision:
Lead and supervise a team of transportation equipment technicians, ensuring all work is completed in a timely and safe manner.
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior technicians, ensuring skill development and adherence to company policies.
Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide constructive feedback to technicians.
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
Oversee the maintenance, diagnostics, repair, and servicing of a wide range of construction transportation equipment, including trucks, trailers, forklifts, and other specialized vehicles.
Ensure all equipment is functioning at peak performance, minimizing downtime and ensuring safety compliance.
Manage the inspection and maintenance schedules for all transportation equipment to ensure proper compliance with company and legal safety standards.
Planning and Coordination:
Coordinate with the Fleet Manager to schedule and prioritize maintenance and repairs, balancing fleet needs with project timelines.
Work closely with project managers and supervisors to ensure transportation equipment is available and ready for deployment as needed.
Develop and enforce preventative maintenance programs for the fleet to reduce the risk of unplanned downtime.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure that all transportation equipment is compliant with federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as company standards.
Monitor the safe operation of all equipment and conduct safety inspections to identify potential hazards.
Implement and enforce safety protocols in the repair and operation of transportation equipment.
Inventory Management:
Manage and monitor parts inventory for transportation equipment, ensuring that necessary supplies are available and ordering replacement parts when needed.
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance activities, repairs, and parts used for cost tracking and warranty purposes.
Reporting and Documentation
Maintain accurate maintenance logs and documentation of work performed on all vehicles and equipment.
Prepare and present regular reports on the fleet's status, performance, and ongoing maintenance needs to senior management.
Education, Qualifications and Experience
High school diploma or equivalent required; technical certifications or an associate degree in mechanical engineering, diesel technology, or a related field preferred.
Minimum of 12 years of experience working in transportation equipment or related field.
Proven experience in managing the maintenance of construction-related transportation equipment such as dump trucks, cranes, excavators, and trailers.
Skills and Competencies:
Strong mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic knowledge related to heavy equipment and transportation vehicles.
Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively communicate and motivate a team.
Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
In-depth knowledge of safety standards, regulations, and best practices for equipment maintenance.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment for troubleshooting and repair.
Proficient with fleet management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift and move heavy equipment and parts (up to 50 lbs) as needed.
Ability to work in outdoor environments and occasionally in inclement weather.
Ability to stand, kneel, crouch, and climb for extended periods during inspections and repairs.
Additional Requirements:
Valid driver’s license and a clean driving record.
Forklift and heavy equipment operator certifications are a plus.
Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, as required.
