The Heavy Vehicle Mechanic will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and inspecting heavy vehicles, including trucks, buses, and construction machinery. The role requires diagnosing mechanical issues, replacing parts, performing preventative maintenance, and ensuring vehicles meet safety and regulatory standards.
Key Responsibilities
Diagnosis and Troubleshooting:
Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues in heavy vehicles.
Use diagnostic tools and techniques to identify the root cause of malfunctions or failures.
Repairs and Maintenance:
Perform repairs on engines, transmissions, brakes, suspension systems, fuel systems, and other vehicle components.
Conduct regular maintenance tasks, including oil changes, tire rotations, brake checks, and fluid top-ups.
Repair and replace faulty parts, such as alternators, batteries, belts, and hoses.
Preventive Maintenance:
Develop and follow schedules for preventive maintenance to ensure vehicle reliability and safety.
Inspect and test vehicles to detect problems before they cause major failures.
Hydraulic and Electrical Systems:
Inspect, repair, and maintain hydraulic and electrical systems in heavy equipment and vehicles.
Diagnose and fix issues with electronic control units (ECUs), sensors, and wiring systems.
Record Keeping:
Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, and inspections.
Track inventory of parts and tools required for vehicle repairs.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure that all work is performed in compliance with safety regulations and industry standards.
Conduct safety inspections to ensure that vehicles comply with safety and environmental regulations.
Customer Service:
Communicate with vehicle owners, operators, or supervisors to explain repairs and maintenance needed.
Provide guidance to customers on maintaining their heavy vehicles for optimal performance.
Training and Development:
Stay up to date with new technology, tools, and repair techniques.
Participate in training programs to improve technical knowledge and skills.
Teamwork and Collaboration:
Work closely with other mechanics, technicians, and supervisors to resolve complex issues.
Assist with mentoring junior mechanics, trainees, or apprentices.
Qualifications and Requirements
Education:
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Completion of an apprenticeship or vocational training in heavy vehicle mechanics.
Certification from a recognized authority (e.g., ASE or equivalent) is a plus.
Experience:
Minimum of years of experience working as a heavy vehicle mechanic.
Experience with a wide range of heavy vehicles, including trucks, buses, and construction equipment.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in diagnosing and repairing diesel engines, electrical systems, hydraulic systems, and other mechanical components.
Experience with computerized diagnostic tools and equipment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift heavy parts and work in physically demanding conditions.
Comfort with working in confined spaces, under vehicles, and with machinery.

Excellent communication and customer service skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

N200,000 per month.
