Job Title: Technical Superintendent

Job Summary
The Technical Superintendent for Marine Engines is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and technical operations of marine engine systems within the fleet.
This includes ensuring that all engines operate efficiently and in compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
The role requires a hands-on approach to troubleshooting, managing technical teams, and maintaining effective communication between the vessel crew, shore-based operations, and external contractors.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee the scheduled maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of marine engine systems, including main engines, auxiliary engines, propulsion systems, and other related machinery.
Develop, implement, and monitor maintenance schedules to ensure engines and machinery are kept in optimal working condition.
Ensure timely and cost-effective repairs when needed, working closely with shipboard engineers, technical staff, and external contractors.
Ensure that all maintenance work and repairs are compliant with international maritime regulations (e.g., SOLAS, MARPOL), class society requirements, and company standards.
Conduct regular inspections and audits of engines and machinery to ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards.
Ensure the proper documentation of maintenance activities and safety procedures.
Provide technical expertise and support to shipboard personnel on engine and machinery-related issues.
Conduct technical assessments of machinery to identify potential issues and recommend solutions for improvement.
Assist with technical training for crew members to ensure they are equipped with the necessary skills to operate and maintain engines effectively.
Manage and coordinate major engine overhauls, upgrades, and new installations.
Develop and monitor project timelines, budgets, and resource allocation for engine-related projects.
Ensure that all projects are completed on time and within budget, and that quality standards are met.
Track the performance of marine engines and report on fuel consumption, engine efficiency, and operational costs.
Analyze engine performance data and provide recommendations for optimization, cost reduction, and preventative maintenance.
Manage relationships with suppliers and service providers for engine parts, repair services, and technical support.
Negotiate contracts with service providers and ensure that all work is carried out according to agreed-upon terms and conditions.
Develop and manage the technical budget for engine maintenance and repairs.
Monitor and control costs, ensuring that maintenance is carried out within budget while maintaining the highest standards of quality and safety.
Stay updated with the latest developments in marine engine technology, systems, and regulations.
Propose improvements and innovations to enhance the efficiency and reliability of the fleet's engine systems.
Participate in workshops, seminars, and industry conferences to share knowledge and best practices.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 5 years of experience in marine engine maintenance, preferably as a Technical Superintendent, Senior Marine Engineer, or similar role.
Extensive knowledge of marine engine systems, including internal combustion engines, fuel systems, and auxiliaries.
In-depth understanding of international maritime regulations and safety standards.
Proven experience in managing technical projects and overseeing vessel maintenance.
Strong leadership, communication, and team management skills.
Excellent problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities.
Proficiency in MS Office and technical management software.
Certification from a recognized classification society (e.g., STCW, Engineer Officer qualifications) is preferred.
Preferred Skills:
Experience with modern marine engine technologies and systems (e.g., digital monitoring, automation).
Knowledge of dry-docking procedures and regulations.
Familiarity with budget preparation and financial management in a marine setting.
Salary
N800,000 - N1,000,000 Monthly.
