Job Title: Lead Electrical Engineer
Location: Lagos or Port Harcourt - Rivers

Job Summary
This role requires leading the electrical engineering team, coordinating with other disciplines, managing electrical design, procurement, and construction activities, and ensuring the successful delivery of electrical systems on time, within budget, and with the highest standards of safety and quality.
Main Responsibilities
Leadership and Coordination:
Lead and manage a team of electrical engineers and designers in the execution of electrical engineering activities.
Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines (civil, mechanical, instrumentation, etc.) to ensure seamless integration of electrical systems within the overall project.
Liaise with procurement, construction, and commissioning teams to ensure electrical systems are installed per design specifications and timelines.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior electrical engineers and designers.
Design Management:
Review and approve electrical design calculations, drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards, client requirements, and project specifications.
Oversee the preparation of electrical power distribution systems, lighting systems, emergency systems, grounding systems, and electrical control systems.
Ensure compliance with local codes and standards (e.g., IEC, NEC, IEEE, etc.) in the electrical design and installation phases.
Review and assess potential design risks and propose mitigation strategies.
Project Planning and Scheduling:
Work with project managers and other leads to develop and maintain the electrical engineering project schedule, ensuring that milestones are met.
Ensure that electrical design deliverables are on time and within budget by tracking progress and managing resources efficiently.
Manage the preparation of electrical engineering deliverables, including technical reports, cost estimates, and documentation.
Procurement Support:
Provide technical support during procurement processes, including preparation of technical specifications for electrical equipment and systems.
Assist in evaluating electrical vendors and suppliers, ensuring that materials and equipment are in compliance with project specifications and cost-effective.
Review vendor submittals and ensure compliance with project design and specifications.
Quality Control and Safety:
Ensure that electrical engineering practices adhere to quality assurance and quality control standards.
Actively contribute to safety reviews, hazard assessments, and risk analysis, ensuring that all electrical systems are designed and implemented with safety as the top priority.
Conduct site visits and inspections to verify that electrical installations meet design and safety requirements.
Commissioning and Start-Up:
Support the commissioning team by reviewing commissioning procedures, verifying that all electrical systems are installed and functional according to the design.
Provide technical expertise during start-up and troubleshooting of electrical systems.
Assist with the preparation of as-built documentation, manuals, and operation guides for the client.
Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain effective communication with clients, contractors, and project teams to resolve issues and ensure smooth project execution.
Report regularly on electrical engineering progress, issues, and risks to the project manager and senior leadership.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Certifications:
Chartered Engineer or Professional Engineer certification (e.g., PE, CEng) is highly desirable.
Experience:
Minimum of 15 - 20 years of experience in electrical engineering, with at least 10 years in a lead or senior role on large-scale EPCM projects.
Proven experience in electrical design, construction, and commissioning for industrial or infrastructure projects.
Expertise in designing electrical systems such as power distribution, lighting, grounding, and control systems.
Knowledge of industry standards and regulations (e.g., NEC, IEC, NFPA, etc.).
Experience in leading electrical engineering teams and managing design deliverables.
Skills:
Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
