Job Title: Lead Instrumentation Engineer
Location: Lagos / Port Harcourt, Rivers
Employment Type: Full-time
Key Responsibilities
Leadership and Coordination:
Lead, mentor, and supervise a team of instrumentation engineers and designers.
Collaborate with other disciplines (mechanical, electrical, civil, etc.) to ensure the seamless integration of instrumentation systems within the overall project design.
Act as the primary point of contact for all instrumentation-related matters during the project lifecycle.
Coordinate the preparation and review of instrumentation design documents, ensuring that design is aligned with project goals and specifications.
Instrumentation Design and Development:
Lead the design and specification of instrumentation systems, including process control systems, field instruments, control valves, analyzers, and other monitoring devices.
Develop and review control system architecture, system layout, instrumentation wiring diagrams (P&ID, loop diagrams), and control panel designs.
Ensure the design meets applicable standards and codes (e.g., IEC, ISA, NEC, etc.), client requirements, and regulatory requirements.
Review instrumentation design deliverables, ensuring they are accurate, cost-effective, and delivered on schedule.
Project Management and Planning:
Develop and manage the instrumentation engineering work schedule, ensuring alignment with the overall project timeline.
Provide input into project planning, resources, and cost estimates for instrumentation scope.
Oversee the procurement of instrumentation and control system components, including preparing specifications, evaluating vendors, and reviewing submittals.
Monitor and report on the progress of instrumentation activities, ensuring that milestones and deadlines are met.
Procurement and Vendor Management:
Provide technical support during the procurement process, including the preparation of specifications and evaluation of suppliers and manufacturers.
Review and approve vendor submittals for instrumentation equipment, systems, and components, ensuring compliance with project specifications.
Coordinate with procurement and construction teams to resolve any issues related to equipment or materials procurement.
Quality Assurance and Safety:
Ensure that all instrumentation design and installation practices adhere to quality control standards, industry best practices, and company procedures.
Lead risk assessments and safety reviews (e.g., HAZOP, SIL assessments) for instrumentation systems and ensure safety compliance.
Ensure that the instrumentation systems are designed and installed in compliance with all relevant safety standards and guidelines.
Conduct site visits and inspections to verify instrumentation systems are being installed correctly and meet design requirements.
Commissioning and Start-Up:
Oversee the commissioning of instrumentation systems, including pre-commissioning, testing, and calibration of instruments and systems.
Provide technical support during system start-up and troubleshooting, ensuring systems are operational and meet performance standards.
Coordinate the preparation and review of as-built documentation, operational manuals, and testing procedures for the client.
Stakeholder Communication:
Maintain effective communication with project stakeholders, including clients, contractors, and internal project teams.
Provide regular progress reports to the project manager and engineering management on instrumentation deliverables, issues, and risks.
Act as the primary technical contact for instrumentation-related inquiries, providing clear and timely resolutions.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
Bachelor’s Degree in Instrumentation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred).
Experience:
Minimum of 15-20 years of experience in instrumentation engineering, with at least 5 years in a lead role on EPCM projects.
Proven expertise in designing and managing instrumentation and control systems, including field instruments, DCS/PLC systems, and control panels.
Experience in leading and mentoring a team of instrumentation engineers and designers.
Familiarity with project management principles, including scheduling, procurement, and cost control.
Skills:
Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Expertise in instrumentation design software (e.g., AutoCAD, EPLAN, etc.) and control system design tools.
Ability to manage complex projects and meet deadlines while maintaining high standards of quality and safety.
Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities.
