Job Brief
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Chief Accountant to lead critical financial operations within our Finance and Accounts department.
The Chief Accountant will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and efficiency of financial management across the company.
this position, you will utilize SAGE 300 ERP to streamline accounting transactions and contribute to the company's strategic financial goals, while focusing on operational financial tasks, compliance and reporting.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Operations:
Serve as the engine room of the Finance and Accounts department, ensuring smooth day-to-day operations.
Oversee the processing of sales, purchases, and general ledger entries for the company and its subsidiaries.
Review payments and monthly bank reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy.
Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare and support monthly and quarterly management reporting for leadership teams and other stakeholders.
Provide meaningful financial insights and analyses to support decision-making processes.
Assist in the preparation of the annual budget and ensure diligent budgetary control for allocated cost areas.
Supervise the implementation of budgetary mechanisms to proactively identify and manage budget/ performance variances by the business sectors
Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the accounting records
Audit and Compliance:
Support the Finance Manager in processing year-end requirements and preparing statutory audit files to deliver clean audit reports.
To protect the Company’s interest by ensuring that relevant statutory and regulatory reports/returns regarding the Company’s financial affairs are generated on a timely basis. e.g., statutory returns, including Tax, Pension & VAT returns.
Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental policies and financial regulations.
Cash Flow and Receivables Management:
Ensure timely issuance of invoices and effective debt follow-up to meet cash management requirements.
Manage contract, and purchase order processes, collaborating effectively with the legal team and other departments.
System and Process Optimization:
Maximize the functionality of SAGE 300 ERP to enhance financial reporting and transaction management.
Contribute to the preparation and implementation of policies, procedures, and controls to strengthen financial operations.
Periodically review key Company Finance activity and performance reports and take appropriate action to ensure the Company’s business objectives are achieved.
Support and Collaboration:
Respond promptly and efficiently to finance-related queries from internal and external stakeholders.
Liaise with internal and external auditors (where applicable) and deal with any financial irregularities as they arise
Provide absence cover for the Finance Manager as required.
Additional Responsibilities:
Assist in all other responsibilities as requested by the Finance Manager.
Maintain a proactive and collaborative relationship with other departments to achieve organizational objectives.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, master’s degree in Accounts or Finance is an added advantage
Professional certification such as ICAN, ACCA, and CFA is required.
Minimum of 20 years of experience in accounting, preferably within an engineering or project-based oil & gas organization.
Proficiency in SAGE 300 ERP is essential for other accounting ERP.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills with people at different levels (both verbal and written).
Ability to work well under pressure, managing tight timescales and conflicting demands
High level of accuracy and attention to detail.
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Ability to manage and prioritize own workload, working on own initiative, and self-sufficiency on a day-to-day basis.
A strong team player with a proactive, flexible, and mature approach to the role.
Demonstrate financial competency and problem-solving ability.
Results-driven, comfortable, and experienced at working operationally to drive continuous improvement and efficiency.
