Job brief
The Financial Accountant will assist senior management and the organization in making critical business decisions by analyzing and presenting key financial data, develop and implement strategies to reduce the company's operational costs.
The Financial Accountant responsibilities include budgeting, managing tax payments, ensure compliance with regulations & legal requirements, performing internal & external audits and offer financial stability.
Responsibilities
To ensure timely preparation of monthly management accounts and financial information which provides a complete and accurate picture of the Company’s financial position.
Oversee the execution of the Company’s budgeting and budgetary control process to achieve the agreed corporate objectives.
To ensure the accuracy and integrity of the accounting records
To co-ordinate the analysis and synthesis of the Company’s financial and non-financial information which provides a basis for sound business decisions by executive management
To protect the Company’s interest by ensuring that relevant statutory and regulatory reports/returns regarding the Company’s financial affairs are generated on a timely basis. e.g., statutory returns, including Tax, Pension & VAT returns.
To implement effective tax planning strategies for the company and ensure full compliance with relevant tax laws.
Respond promptly and efficiently to all financial queries and issues raised internally and externally
Oversee the preparation of the Company’s annual budget and monitor the implementation to minimize overruns and achieve the desired objectives.
Supervise the implementation of budgetary mechanisms to proactively identify and manage budget/ performance variances by the business sectors.
Authorize expenditure/ transactions in line with the Company’s approved authority limits.
Periodically review key Company Finance activity and performance reports and take appropriate action to ensure the Company’s business objectives are achieved.
Liaise with internal and external auditors (where applicable) and deal with any financial irregularities as they arise. Cashflow forecasting and Reconciliation of actual performance against forecasts.
Working closely with external auditors to prepare the statutory financial reports/year-end audit.
Preparing and reporting of key KPI’s for the business
Track the company’s financial status and performance to identify areas for potential improvement.
Managing, reporting, and reconciling all intercompany costs
Research and analyze financial reports and market trends.
Stay up to date with technological advances and accounting software to be used for financial purposes.
Establish and maintain financial policies and procedures for the company.
Perform month-end accounting activities such as reconciliations and journal entries.
Coordinate with the Management Accounts section within the Finance & Accounts department to complete assigned accounting tasks within deadlines.
Review and recommend changes to existing accounting procedures.
Development of appropriate financial controls and processes
Ongoing automation and continuous improvement as the business continues to scale
General Responsibilities:
Maintain accurate historical records.
Assist with month-end closing.
Provide supporting documentation for audits.
Develop, implement, and maintain systems, procedures, and policies, including accounts payable and receivable functions to ensure adherence to company guidelines.
Assist with annual budget preparation.
Monitor and forecast cash flow positions.
Support the Finance Manager with special projects and workflow process improvements.
Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field, master’s degree in Accounts or Finance is an added advantage
Experience: Minimum of 15 years of experience in a Finance & Accounting role, with at least 5 years in a senior or supervisory role
Member of ACA, ACCA, CFA compulsory
Skills:
Strong Knowledge of IFRS & GAAP
Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
Excellent organizational and time management skills. Ability to anticipate and independently resolve issues
Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
In-depth understanding of regulatory policies
Advanced knowledge SAGE 300 Accounting Software
Sound knowledge of accounting fundamentals
Confident oral presentation and communication skills to influence, persuade, negotiate, motivate, and agree on commitments with colleagues in a high-pressure environment
Approachable and able to coach and assist colleagues with accounting problems/issues
Numerate and articulate in handling statistics and interpreting information for communication to all levels within the business
Flexible, well organized with lots of initiative, energy, and personal motivation
Results-oriented and determined in resolving issues and achieving objectives
A keen eye for detail and desire to probe further into data
Ability to stick to time constraints
