Job Summary
The Project Driver/Logistics Assistant will be responsible for providing reliable and safe transport services for project staff for their field activities, including conveyance to project implementation sites, government offices, and meetings with stakeholders.
The driver plays a critical role in supporting the successful implementation of project activities by ensuring that all transportation needs are met in a timely and secure manner.
The position requires excellent driving skills, a good understanding of vehicle maintenance, and familiarity with the local terrain and road conditions, especially in conflict-affected or post-crisis areas.
Additionally, this role will support logistical tasks, ensuring efficient operations related to transportation, supply delivery, and other project logistics needs.
Key Responsibilities
Transportation Services:
Safely transport project staff to and from project sites, community meetings, and other official locations, ensuring adherence to safety protocols.
Drive responsibly and ensure the safety and well-being of all passengers during transit.
Assist with loading and unloading project materials, supplies, or other necessary equipment as required.
Vehicle Maintenance:
Conduct routine vehicle checks before and after each journey to ensure the vehicle is in good working condition.
Report any mechanical issues or repairs needed to the supervisor promptly and ensure timely servicing of the vehicle.
Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle and ensure it is fueled, equipped with safety gear, and ready for use at all times.
Logistics Support:
Assist with logistical tasks, such as picking up and delivering supplies, documents, and equipment as needed by the project team.
Support inventory management, including monitoring stock levels and reporting shortages to the logistics team.
Help coordinate and prepare materials for project activities and meetings.
Documentation and Reporting:
Maintain an accurate vehicle logbook, recording all trips, mileage, fuel consumption, and other relevant details.
Prepare and submit monthly vehicle reports, including usage, maintenance needs, and any incidents.
Ensure that all necessary documentation, including insurance and permits, is current and readily available in the vehicle.
Compliance and Safety:
Adhere to all traffic rules, regulations, and safety guidelines, ensuring the highest standards of road safety and passenger security.
Follow organizational policies and procedures for transport and logistics, ensuring compliance with donor and project requirements.
Report any security or safety concerns immediately to the supervisor.
Support to the Project Team:
Assist with setting up and organizing project meetings, workshops, and events as needed.
Provide general logistical support to the field office, including basic office maintenance and organizing materials.
Position Requirements
Education:
OND / NCE / HND / BSc or equivalent. Additional training or certification in driving and logistics is an advantage.
Experience:
At least 2 years of experience as a driver, preferably with an NGO or humanitarian organization.
Previous experience in logistics support, with familiarity in inventory management, transport logistics, or related tasks.
Skills & Competencies:
Valid and clean driver’s license for the appropriate vehicle class.
Good knowledge of local roads and routes, as well as traffic regulations and safety practices.
Basic mechanical skills for vehicle troubleshooting and maintenance.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to work well with a diverse team.
Basic proficiency in English and Hausa (proficiency in other local languages is an advantage).
Other Requirements:
Ability to work in remote areas with limited access to services and flexibility with working hours.
Strong attention to safety and compliance with organizational policies.
High level of integrity, punctuality, and reliability.
