PATH is a global organization that works to accelerate health equity by bringing together public institutions, businesses, social enterprises, and investors to solve the world’s most pressing health challenges. With expertise in science, health, economics, technology, advocacy, and dozens of other specialties, PATH develops and scales solutions including vaccines, drugs, devices, diagnostics, and innovative approaches to strengthening health systems worldwide.

We are recruiting to fill the position below:

Job Title: Global Program Leader, Diagnostics

Job Requisition ID: JR1617
Location: Abuja
Job type: Full-time

Description

  • We are seeking a dynamic leader to guide our Diagnostics (Dx) global program. This individual will serve as a key leader within PATH’s Product Development division reporting to the Chief Scientific Officer and working closely with our vaccines and medical devices programs.
  • The Dx leader will oversee a diverse global team of 26 employees operating across multiple time zones worldwide.
  • The PATH Dx program ensures that innovative diagnostics are available, accessible, and adoptable. We design, develop, and validate robust, easy-to-use, and purpose-built diagnostic tools in the lab and the field.
  • We help countries to integrate diagnostics into markets and health systems and create quality assurance programs to support their use.
  • We work with partners to ensure that diagnostic tools are deployed as part of an integrated and effective health system to guide patient care and public health programs.
  • We advocate for policies that make new diagnostic technologies sustainable around the world.

As the Global Program Leader of Dx, there are three primary areas of responsibility:

  • Strategic Oversight: Develop and execute a visionary strategy for the Dx program aligned with the Product Development division strategy, integrating organizational efforts, and identifying new areas of focus to drive positive global health impact.
  • Program Leadership: Lead, cultivate, and expand our collaborative global program, fostering an environment of empowerment, effectiveness, and integration.
  • Partnership Development: Cultivate and nurture relationships with international agencies, governments, private and public sector, and donors, fostering deep and lasting partnerships to grow the program to maximize impact and reach.

Responsibilities

  • Operate with accountability to PATH's mission for improving health equity.
  • Provide high-level oversight for project implementation and evaluation, ensuring adherence to the highest standards of ethics and excellence.
  • Manage Dx's budget, reporting, and contribution targets, advocating for institutional resources.
  • Cultivate a unified, inclusive, and respectful global team culture, empowering team members to excel.
  • Provide emotionally intelligent coaching and mentorship to senior leadership, facilitating problem-solving and innovation.
  • Represent PATH externally, serving as a spokesperson and liaison to stakeholders.
  • Advance collaboration within the Product Development Division and across the organization.
  • Lead with a continuous improvement mindset and identify opportunities for operational efficiency and work with leadership to implement.
  • Mobilize resources to support employee growth, DEI, and other internal initiatives.
  • Directly support or lead projects.
  • Oversee lab research and clinical activities.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Degree in Product Development, Engineering, Science, Public Health, Medicine, Business, or related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years leading and managing teams in a health technology product development department with increasing level of responsibility.
  • Proficient in conducting market research to identify unmet needs, opportunities for innovation and then translating that into business development to influence stakeholders and advocate for sustainable solutions across diverse cultural populations.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with global health organizations, local stakeholders and other experts from various disciplines. Strong leadership skills, embodying a human-centered approach, coupled with exceptional emotional intelligence and people management abilities that fostered a collaborative and supportive work environment.
  • Proven success with resource mobilization and fundraising efforts.
  • Proven expertise in leading diverse and complex international partnerships.
  • Proven success in proposal development and donor engagement.
  • Prior experience working with or in relevant product development industry.
  • Prior experience overseeing lab and clinical (human-subjects) research and activities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ethical practices with an understanding of equity, access, and social determinants of global health.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Successful management of multi-project portfolios within budget constraints.
  • Familiarity with global regulatory requirements and quality management systems.
