Job Description
The Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Engineer in the oil and gas sector is responsible for the design, implementation, and maintenance of electrical systems and instrumentation equipment across facilities.
This includes control systems, safety circuits, power distribution, and monitoring equipment essential for safe and efficient operations.
The role requires technical proficiency, an understanding of industry standards, and a commitment to safety in both onshore and offshore environments.
Responsibilities
Design and Development:
Develop and design electrical and instrumentation systems for oil and gas facilities, including power distribution,control systems, and safety circuits.
Prepare and review engineering drawings, specifications, and technical documents for electrical andinstrumentation systems.
Select appropriate instrumentation and electrical equipment to ensure compliance with project and industrystandards.
Project Coordination:
Collaborate with other engineering disciplines, project management teams, and stakeholders to ensure seamlessintegration of electrical and instrumentation systems.
Participate in project planning, providing technical support and ensuring alignment with project goals, timelines,and budgets.
Interface with clients, contractors, and vendors to discuss project requirements, specifications, and technicalchallenges.
Installation, Commissioning, and Testing:
Oversee the installation, commissioning of electrical, and instrumentation systems, ensuring they meet designspecifications and safety standards.
Conduct system testing, calibration, and troubleshooting to verify that equipment operates effectively and reliably.
Implement quality checks and provide support to field teams during installation and commissioning phases.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting:
Develop and implement maintenance procedures to ensure reliable and safe operation of electrical andinstrumentation systems.
Identify and diagnose issues in existing systems, recommending corrective actions to minimize downtime.
Support asset management by maintaining records of equipment inspections, maintenance schedules, andperformance data.
Safety and Compliance:
Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety codes (e.g., IEC, NEC, OSHA, and API).
Conduct risk assessments and participate in HAZOP (Hazard and Operability) studies to identify and mitigatepotential hazards.
Ensure safe working practices and adherence to environmental policies in all engineering activities.
Documentation and Reporting:
Prepare and maintain detailed documentation, including design specifications, test reports, maintenance logs, andproject updates.
Generate and present technical reports, progress summaries, and project closeout documentation.
Maintain records of all modifications, troubleshooting actions, and maintenance activities for reference and audit purposes.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical and instrumentation engineering, ideally within the oil and gas industry.
Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification preferred.
Proficiency in engineering software, such as AutoCAD, ETAP, or similar, for design and simulation.
Strong knowledge of industry standards, such as IEC, NEC, API, and OSHA.
Familiarity with DCS, PLC, SCADA systems, and instrumentation control systems.
Skills:
Technical Expertise: Strong understanding of electrical and instrumentation engineering principles and relevanttechnologies.
Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues effectively and efficiently.
Safety Compliance: In-depth knowledge of safety standards and ability to conduct risk assessments to ensure safeoperations.
