Job Title: Chief Science Officer (Genomics / Health Tech Expertise)
Location: Lagos, Nigeria (Remote Working)
Job Summary
The Chief Science Officer (CSO) is responsible for leading the scientific research and development efforts of the organization. This role involves overseeing the design and implementation of research projects, ensuring scientific integrity, and driving innovation to support the company’s strategic goals.
The CSO collaborates with other executives to align scientific initiatives with business objectives and regulatory requirements.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Genomic Data Management:
Oversee the acquisition, storage, and processing of DNA sequences. Ensure the accuracy and security of genetic data.
Scientific Strategy:
Develop strategies to align company’s offerings with cutting-edge genomics research, particularly focusing on Africa and the developing world.
Data Interpretation:
Lead the interpretation of genetic information into actionable insights for users, focusing on health risks, ancestral lineage, and cultural significance.
Collaboration with Health Experts:
Build partnerships with healthcare providers, genetic counselors, and academic institutions to enhance the app’s scientific credibility.
Development of DNA Testing Pipeline:
Guide the creation of a user-friendly and efficient DNA testing pipeline, ensuring accuracy, accessibility, and scalability for users.
Compliance & Ethics:
Ensure the app complies with ethical standards and regulations regarding DNA collection, storage, and usage, especially in relation to user privacy and consent.
Health Insights Integration:
Work closely with the tech team to integrate personalized health recommendations based on users' DNA profiles, ensuring they are presented in a simple and understandable way.
Stay Updated with Scientific Advancements:
Continuously monitor advances in genomics to keep company’s offerings competitive and relevant
Qualifications
Education:
Minimum of Master’s Degree in a relevant scientific discipline such as Biology, Chemistry or Biochemistry or a related field.
Minimum of 3 -8 years relevant industry work experience with extensive experience in scientific research.
Experience:
Expertise in genomics, bioinformatics, or related fields.
Experience working with large genomic datasets and translating scientific insights into layman terms.
Skills:
Ability to organize work schedules on daily, weekly and monthly basis.
Strong knowledge of health-tech trends, particularly in the African context.
Familiarity with genetic counseling, healthcare regulations, and ethics.
Excellent leadership skills to guide scientific development and ensure high data integrity.
