Travel Requirements: Up to 75% within districts and health facilities
Job Summary
We are hiring a District Consultant for Cross-Border Coordination to support our client in strengthening health systems and ensuring coordinated cross-border health interventions.
The consultant will focus on assisting the Ministry of Public Health, Population, and Social Affairs in ending the transmission of poliovirus across the borders of Niger, Nigeria, Cameroon, and Chad by the end of 2025.
This role involves improving vaccination strategies, surveillance systems, and health access for underserved and high-risk populations. The successful candidate will serve as a focal point for cross-border health interventions at the district level.
Key Responsibilities
Mapping Cross-Border Populations and Stakeholders:
Assist in mapping stakeholders, health facilities, border crossings, community leaders, and at-risk populations.
Support the development of targeted questions to identify best practices and underlying challenges.
Collect and analyze data on cross-border health interventions using qualitative and quantitative methods.
Contribute to formulating solutions with national stakeholders to ensure every child is vaccinated.
Planning and Coordinating Cross-Border Health Interventions:
Act as a focal point for district-level cross-border health interventions.
Support the establishment and revitalization of cross-border health coordination committees.
Assist in planning joint interventions, developing microplans, and ensuring timely execution of activities.
Participate in stakeholder advocacy meetings and assist in preparing advocacy materials.
Supporting Synchronized Health Campaigns:
Supervise health campaigns such as vaccination activities in collaboration with district health teams.
Provide technical support for the use of digital tools to monitor vaccination coverage and address gaps.
Assist in organizing and evaluating health intervention review meetings.
Data Management and Reporting:
Support periodic data review for accuracy, completeness, and reliability.
Promote the use of harmonized tools for data collection and sharing across border zones.
Provide weekly updates on cross-border activities and document all health intervention processes.
Qualifications and Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, Statistics, or a related field; Master’s degree is an advantage.
3-5 years of experience in primary healthcare programs, particularly in routine immunization or polio support.
Proficiency in Hausa or other local languages spoken along the border.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent communication skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office.
Experience with digital data collection tools such as KoboToolbox or ODK.
Residency in the target regions is required.
Previous experience working in challenging or insecure environments is an advantage.
