Green Concern for Development (GREENCODE) is a National registered NGO with CAC No: CAC/IT/NO 25643 and has been in operation for over 10 years. Our mission is to work with the poor and socially excluded people and government for the promotion of environmental and human rights protection in communities in Nigeria, aimed at poverty reduction through education, information sharing, research, training, and direct impact interventions are in humanitarian emergency response and development, with physical presence in Borno, Yobe, Adamawa, Abuja and Cross River States.
The Security and Safety Consultant will provide strategic and operational support to GREENCODE’s leadership and field teams, ensuring that security policies, procedures, and practices are robust, up-to-date, and aligned with the security risks in our operational areas.
This role is essential for enhancing GREENCODE’s security risk management framework and ensuring the safety of all personnel and assets across project sites.
Responsibilities
Security Risk Assessment and Management:
Conduct comprehensive security risk assessments for GREENCODE’s operational areas, identifying potential threats, vulnerabilities, and risks affecting the organization’s activities.
Develop and implement tailored security risk management strategies and mitigation plans to minimize threats to staff, assets, and operations.
Continuously monitor changes in security environments and update risk assessments as needed to reflect current threats.
Security Policy Development and Review:
Develop emergency response plans, evacuation protocols, and incident management guidelines to address potential security incidents and crises.
Advise on and incorporate a gender-sensitive approach within security policies, ensuring safe practices for all staff, including women and vulnerable groups.
Training and Capacity Building:
Conduct security training sessions and safety briefings for staff, covering topics such as personal security, travel safety, and risk mitigation measures.
Build the capacity of GREENCODE’s local security focal points, providing ongoing coaching and support to maintain safety and security standards.
Develop user-friendly security training materials, such as handbooks, quick reference guides, and checklists for field staff and partners.
Incident Response and Crisis Management:
Support GREENCODE’s management in responding to security incidents, including assessing the situation, coordinating emergency responses, and recommending appropriate actions.
Serve as an on-call advisor during security incidents, providing expert guidance to manage threats effectively.
Document and analyze incidents to identify lessons learned and implement improvements in security practices.
Networking and Coordination:
Establish and maintain strong relationships with relevant stakeholders, including local security forces, NGOs, UN agencies, and government bodies.
Participate in local and regional security coordination meetings to stay updated on security trends and potential threats.
Liaise with GREENCODE’s partners and field teams to ensure coordinated and standardized security practices across operational areas.
Qualifications and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Security Management, International Relations, Risk Management, or a related field. Advanced certifications in security management (e.g., Certified Protection Professional (CPP)) are a plus.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in security management, risk assessment, or safety advisory roles, preferably within the humanitarian or non-profit sector.
Proven experience in high-risk environments, with demonstrated expertise in security planning and crisis management.
Strong knowledge of security risk management frameworks, emergency preparedness, and security protocols.
Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
Proficiency in using security management tools, GIS mapping, and risk analysis software is an advantage.
Preferred Skills:
Experience working with organizations in conflict-prone or high-risk regions.
Familiarity with donor security requirements, including those of UN agencies, USAID, and the EU.
Ability to conduct and facilitate security training for diverse teams and levels of experience.
