The African Field Epidemiology Network (AFENET) is a non-profit networking and service alliance of Field Epidemiology (and Laboratory) Training Programs (FELTPs), and other applied epidemiology training programs. AFENET has operations in over 31 countries in Sub-Saharan Africa or the World Health Organisation Africa Region (WHO – AFRO). Established in 2005, AFENET is dedicated to helping Ministries of Health in Africa build strong, effective, sustainable programs and capacity to improve public health systems on the African continent.

Job Title: Field Coordinator / Measles Lead - NSTOP
Location: Abuja
Employment Type: Contract
Duration of contract: Six (6) Months
Work Hours: Full-time (8 hours per day)
Description
The Measles Team Lead will lead AFENET Measles project and provide technical assistance to the government on the measles and rubella elimination initiative, and Non-Polio SIAs (Supplementary Immunization Activities) in the areas of strategic planning, epidemiological surveillance, and laboratory support which are critical for achieving the measles elimination targets and other VPDs control. The measles team lead will also be responsible for the following:
Supervise AFENET consultants working with NCDC and NPHCDA on various initiatives such as Measles SIAs, outbreak responses, MORCA, laboratory and surveillance strengthening, Strategic Planning Development and operational research. This supervisory role is vital for ensuring standards and adherence to protocols all operations.
Provide leadership, Technical, and administrative support to all AFENET activities relating to measles Rubella and NPSIAs
Provide technical support to NCDC on measles & Rubella
Supervise AFENET Consultants to NCDC on Measles SIAs & OBR, Measles & Rubella Epi/surveillance, Lab Support, Strategic Planning Development
Plan, coordinate and supervise all measles & Rubella trainings, meetings and workshop
Plan, coordinate and supervise all measles & Rubella field activities
Provide technical support to Measles - Outbreak response and curriculum Development including training and field supervision
Provide technical support to Measles SIAs and the identification and deployment of measles consultants and MSTs
Provide technical support to CRS including training, workshops, meetings and supervision of field activities.
Support AFENET field officers in the planning, implementation, monitoring and supervision of measles surveillance and vaccination activities in the states.
Track Measles surveillance and vaccination performance in AFENET supported states
Provide technical support to AFENET technical team where requested/indicated
Report to the NSTOP national coordinator
Carry out any duties assigned by the immediate supervisor or the RTC
Deliverables
Work with government and partners to improve measles coverage in high zero dose areas.
Coordinate AFENET Measles programmatic activities both at national and subnational level demonstrating an improvement in planning and decision-making
Strengthen measles rubella and other VPD surveillance activities.
Support the coordination, planning and implementation of Measles and other Non-polio SIA activities
Submit monthly activity reports to AFENET and CDC Nigeria country office and participate in meetings and teleconferences as scheduled.
Report detailing progress in the implementation of measles activities in states implementing CDC/AFENET consequential geography activities.
Out- brief with AFENET, CDC Nigeria country office and CDC HQ on a regular basis
Reporting:
You will be under the direct supervision of the NSTOP National Coordinator.
Education: Qualification and Pre-requisite
First Degree in Medicine, veterinary medicine, or other related field.
Master’s degree in public health, Epidemiology, veterinary epidemiology, or related field.
Training in advanced Field Epidemiology
Professional certifications, licenses, or other expertise required.
Required Knowledge and Experience:
Strong technical knowledge in public health, epidemiology, routine immunization, SIAs, disease outbreak investigation, data collection and management, and data analysis.
At least 5 years of field experience in vaccine-preventable disease and Nigeria field experience.
Experience in coordination or management of measles or non-poli SIAs
Experience working with government to provide technical assistance in measles activities.
Proficiency in English language.
Skills and Abilities:
Skills in Microsoft package (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), access, demonstrated analytical skills, ability to communicate orally and in writing.
Ability to engage in successful interaction, and extensive contact with members of national and local partner organizations.
