Job Description
We are seeking a talented and enthusiastic Basic Catering /Pastry Tutor to join our team, specializing in providing hands-on culinary education to adolescents and young children.
This role involves teaching basic baking and cooking skills, fostering creativity, and instilling a love for food and cooking in young learners.
The ideal candidate will be an AYP with a passion for pastry and catering, excellent communication skills, and a knack for engaging with young individuals.
Past beneficiaries who have benefited from the AYP hub in Mushin are especially encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
Culinary Instruction:
Develop and implement age-appropriate curriculum and lesson plans for pastry and catering classes targeted at adolescents and young children.
Teach fundamental baking and cooking techniques, including measuring ingredients, mixing, baking, and decorating.
Demonstrate recipes and cooking methods in a clear and engaging manner, encouraging active participation and hands-on learning.
Menu Planning and Recipe Development:
Create a variety of fun and nutritious recipes suitable for young learners, considering dietary restrictions and preferences.
Collaborate with students to brainstorm ideas for menus and recipes, encouraging creativity and exploration in the kitchen.
Kitchen Safety and Hygiene
Instruct students on proper kitchen safety procedures, including handling equipment, using knives, and practicing sanitation.
Emphasize the importance of food safety and hygiene practices, such as hand washing, proper storage, and temperature control.
Nutrition Education:
Educate students about the nutritional value of different ingredients and the importance of balanced eating habits.
Incorporate discussions on healthy eating and food choices into lessons, promoting awareness of nutrition and wellness.
Culinary Events and Projects:
Organize culinary events, such as bake sales, cooking competitions, and themed parties, to showcase students' skills and accomplishments.
Lead collaborative cooking projects and group activities to encourage teamwork, communication, and creativity among students.
Mentorship and Support:
Provide encouragement, guidance, and constructive feedback to students, helping them build confidence and develop their culinary skills.
Foster a positive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel supported and valued.
Qualifications
The Pastry and Catering Tutor for Adolescents and Young Children should possess the following qualifications:
Higher Diploma / Diploma in Culinary Arts from a recognized institution.
Certification such as Certified Executive Pastry Chef or Certified Culinary Educator.
Mus have at least 3 years work experience in the catering industry before transitioning to teaching.
Certificatein teaching adolescents and young people’ is an added advantageCompetences
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and connect with young persons.
Expertise in the principles and practices of baking and catering
Practical experience and knowledge in the catering industry
Ability to design and deliver effective lessons to their students.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with adolescents and young people.
Additional Requirements:
Willingness to undergo background checks and any necessary certifications related to working with children.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate class schedules and events.
