Damnaish Human Capacity Building Initiative (DHCBI) is a Humanitarian Non-Governmental Organization, founded in 2014 and incorporated with the Nigerian Government (Corporate Affairs Commission) in 2015 (CAC/IT/No 83231) to provide humanitarian assistance, in terms of emergency and Capacity building, social development and empowerment to eradication poverty and the fear of want. It has since its inception, been strategizing, collaborating, and interfacing with relevant stakeholders toward enhancing the individual’s ability to break free from poverty or bounce back in times of crisis.
Our society has over the years been bedeviled by insecurity, poverty, illiteracy, disease, hunger, malnutrition, lack of access to clean, water bad sanitation, human rights abuses environmental degradation as well a lack of economic opportunities, making it possible for the humanitarian crisis to thrive. DHCBI, therefore, has tailored its humanitarian services to building or restoring the capacity of individuals and communities towards rapid and quick recovery by supporting livelihoods and sustainable basic services through some articulated programs.

Job Title: Livestock Officer
Location: Borno
Project Duration: 8 months
General Description and Job Brief
The Livestock Officer will play a crucial role in implementing DHCBI’s livestock support interventions, focusing on sustainable livestock management, animal health, and livelihood support.
Working within the project’s objectives and guidelines, the Livestock Officer will oversee all livestock-related activities, provide technical support to beneficiaries, and ensure quality control in all aspects of livestock programming.
This role requires significant interaction with community members, training and capacity-building efforts, and collaboration with local government and veterinary services.
Responsibilities
The Livestock Officer will:
Program Implementation: Support the planning, implementation, and monitoring of livestock support interventions, including livestock restocking, distribution of animal feed, and other inputs.
Beneficiary Training and Capacity Building: Conduct regular training sessions on animal husbandry, livestock disease prevention, nutrition, and hydroponic fodder production to improve livestock feed availability. Ensure that training materials are culturally relevant and adapted to the community's needs.
Hydroponic Training: Introduce beneficiaries to hydroponic techniques for growing fodder without soil, providing a sustainable feed source. Oversee hands-on training sessions, equipping beneficiaries with the knowledge and resources to implement hydroponics for livestock.
Technical Support: Provide ongoing technical guidance on livestock health, disease management, and care practices to improve livestock productivity and beneficiary self-sufficiency.
Community Engagement: Engage actively with community leaders and beneficiaries, promoting sustainable livestock practices and reinforcing best practices for animal welfare.
Monitoring and Evaluation: Monitor livestock conditions, health outcomes, and the adoption of hydroponic practices among beneficiaries. Ensure accurate data collection, reporting, and documentation of all livestock interventions.
Collaboration with Veterinary Services: Coordinate with local veterinary agencies and experts for necessary animal health support, including vaccinations and treatment.
Compliance and Reporting: Ensure that all activities are in line with DHCBI policies and comply with relevant national standards and donor requirements. Submit regular reports on livestock and hydroponic activities.
Capacity-Building and Quality Assurance:
Conduct on-site training and capacity building for field staff and community members involved in livestock and hydroponic management.
Collaborate closely with the FSL (Food Security and Livelihood) team to ensure an integrated approach to overall livelihood improvement.
External Representation:
Represent DHCBI in livestock-related clusters, working groups, and community meetings to ensure coordination and alignment with regional livestock management efforts.
Collaborate with local stakeholders, including community representatives, government agencies, and partner organizations.
Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA):
Actively promote PSEA standards within DHCBI and among community members.
Compliance & Ethics:
Promote and uphold a culture of compliance and ethics throughout DHCBI. Adhere to WFP and DHCBI compliance and ethics standards.
Gender Equality Commitments:
Foster an inclusive environment that values diversity, respects all individuals, and promotes equal access to opportunities.
Ensure that programming considers the needs of all genders, providing equal access to resources and training.
Requirements
Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Animal Science, Veterinary Science, Agriculture, or a related field.
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in livestock management, animal husbandry, or a related area in humanitarian settings.
Skills: Strong technical knowledge of livestock health, disease management, animal nutrition, and hydroponic systems; excellent communication and training skills; ability to work with diverse communities.
Additional: Familiarity with WFP or other donor-funded livestock programs is an asset. Ability to adapt to remote and challenging work environments.
