The Medical Officer will be responsible for overseeing the health and well-being of residents in the care home, providing medical care, and coordinating treatment plans with other healthcare professionals.
This role ensures that residents receive high-quality medical care in compliance with regulatory standards while working closely with nursing and care staff to create a safe and supportive environment for elderly or vulnerable individuals.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical Care & Medical Oversight:
Provide day-to-day medical care for residents, including diagnosis, treatment, and management of acute and chronic conditions.
Conduct regular health assessments and medical evaluations of residents.
Develop, implement, and review individual care plans in collaboration with nursing staff, families, and other healthcare professionals.
Monitor the health status of residents and adjust treatment plans as necessary, ensuring optimal health outcomes.
Prescribe and administer medications in accordance with residents' health needs and care plans.
Emergency Response & Crisis Management:
Lead the medical response during emergencies or critical health events.
Ensure timely referrals to specialist care or hospital admission when necessary.
Provide first-line emergency care when required and ensure that appropriate follow-up care is coordinated.
Regulatory Compliance & Documentation:
Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations, care home policies, and industry standards.
Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records, ensuring all documentation is in line with legal and care home requirements.
Conduct routine audits of medical practices and resident care to ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines.
Collaboration & Teamwork:
Work closely with nursing staff, caregivers, and allied health professionals to ensure comprehensive, holistic care for residents.
Participate in case reviews and multidisciplinary team meetings to discuss resident progress and adapt care strategies.
Liaise with external medical specialists, hospitals, and healthcare providers to coordinate care when necessary.
Resident & Family Engagement:
Provide medical advice and education to residents and their families on health conditions, treatment plans, and overall well-being.
Support residents and their families in understanding their treatment options and managing chronic conditions effectively.
Foster a compassionate, resident-centered approach to medical care that emphasizes dignity, respect, and autonomy.
Preventive Health & Wellness Programs:
Lead wellness programs, including vaccinations, screenings, and health education initiatives, to promote preventive care for residents.
Encourage healthy lifestyle practices among residents to improve their quality of life and reduce the risk of illness or injury.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) or equivalent from a recognized institution.
Minimum of 5 years of medical practice experience in a hospital, clinic, or healthcare setting.
Full registration with the medical council or relevant authority.
Valid driver’s license is required.
Experience in geriatrics, family medicine, or long-term care is an advantage.
