Job Summary
The Biology and BST Teacher is responsible for delivering engaging, interactive, and informative lessons in both Biology and Basic Science and Technology to students, fostering a love for science, and equipping students with essential scientific knowledge and practical skills.
The teacher will plan, prepare, and conduct lessons that inspire students’ curiosity and comprehension of scientific concepts, ensuring alignment with the school curriculum and educational standards.
Key Responsibilities
Teaching and Instruction:
Develop and deliver Biology and BST lessons according to the curriculum for designated grade levels, adapting content to meet diverse learning needs.
Prepare students for both internal and external examinations, covering required topics such as Environmental Hazards, Physical Fitness, Resources, Ecology, Human Anatomy, Physiology, and Life Processes.
Incorporate multimedia tools, laboratory experiments, and hands-on activities to foster active learning and practical skills.
Manage classroom behavior and create a safe and conducive learning environment.
Lesson Planning and Curriculum Development:
Prepare lesson plans, schemes of work, and instructional materials for both Biology and BST, ensuring they are comprehensive, organized, and aligned with the national educational standards.
Integrate cross-curricular links where relevant, encouraging students to understand connections between Biology, technology, and everyday life.
Laboratory and Practical Work:
Plan and supervise practical laboratory experiments, ensuring student safety and compliance with health regulations.
Teach students correct lab techniques, use of scientific equipment, and methods for documenting experiments and analyzing data.
Assessment and Reporting:
Assess and evaluate students’ progress through regular assignments, quizzes, tests, and practical examinations.
Provide timely and constructive feedback to students, parents, and the school administration.
Maintain accurate records of students’ performance, attendance, and behavior.
Professional Development and Collaboration:
Participate in professional development programs to stay updated with the latest trends and advancements in science education and teaching methodologies.
Collaborate with other teachers and departments to plan interdisciplinary projects or workshops.
Attend and contribute to faculty meetings, parent-teacher conferences, and other school-related activities.
Guidance and Student Support:
Act as a mentor and advisor to students, fostering a supportive environment where students feel comfortable discussing academic or personal challenges related to learning.
Encourage and inspire students to pursue further studies or careers in science and technology fields.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Science Education, or a related field; teaching certification or license preferred.
Previous experience teaching Biology and/or Basic Science and Technology at the secondary school level is an advantage.
Strong commitment to ongoing professional development and staying updated on scientific advancements and educational practices.
Key Skills and Competencies:
Subject Expertise: In-depth knowledge of Biology and BST curriculum, with strong command over topics such as environmental science, body systems, ecology, and technological advancements.
