Job Overview
The Accountant/Financial Controller will manage the financial operations, reporting, and internal controls for The Manor by Luckzi Hotel, setting a high standard in hotel financial management.
This role requires strong financial skills tailored to hospitality operations, ensuring compliance, strategic cost management, and data-driven financial insights.
The candidate will play a critical role in producing monthly reports for the hotel’s owner and supporting profitable decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Management and Accounting:
Oversee daily accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash management, and general ledger.
Maintain accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, including IFRS, and Nigerian tax obligations.
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and reports, aligning with company standards.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Develop, implement, and monitor the hotel’s annual budget in coordination with department heads.
Conduct monthly variance analysis, comparing actuals to budget, and provide insights to drive adjustments.
Prepare rolling forecasts to assist in strategic planning and ensure alignment with business goals.
Hospitality-Specific Financial Management:
Calculate, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) specific to the hotel industry, including RevPAR (Revenue per Available Room), ADR (Average Daily Rate), GOP (Gross Operating Profit), and OCC (Occupancy Rate).
Implement revenue management principles, collaborating with sales and marketing to maximize room occupancy and optimize pricing strategies.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
Establish robust internal controls to safeguard assets, reduce risk, and prevent fraud, with a particular focus on cost control and inventory management.
Conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with policies, health and safety standards, labor laws, and local regulations.
Liaise with external auditors, preparing necessary documentation and maintaining transparency.
Financial Reporting:
Produce and present comprehensive financial reports at monthly meetings with the owner, emphasizing hospitality-specific metrics and actionable recommendations.
Prepare custom financial reports upon request to provide a deep insight into the hotel's financial health and operational efficiency.
Coordination with Operations:
Work closely with department heads to improve financial awareness, promote budget adherence, and optimize resource utilization.
Provide training or guidance on financial processes and systems to relevant hotel staff as required.
Systems and Technology:
Ensure data accuracy in financial reports through efficient use of accounting and hospitality management systems.
Utilize Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets, for data tracking and creating custom dashboards aligned with hospitality metrics.
Qualifications and Skills
Essential Certifications:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria), ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), ACA (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria), or CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants) certification is mandatory.
Minimum of 5 years of accounting or financial management experience, with a preference for candidates with hospitality or service industry experience.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in accounting software and hospitality management systems (e.g., QuickBooks, Opera, MICROS, M3).
Advanced skills in Google Workspace, especially Google Sheets, for financial analysis and reporting.
Knowledge of Nigerian tax laws, regulatory compliance standards, and IFRS.
Industry-Specific Knowledge and Analytical Skills:
Experience with hospitality metrics and KPIs, including RevPAR, ADR, GOP, and Occupancy Rates.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data and make informed recommendations.
Proven ability to conduct financial analysis for cost control, revenue optimization, and profitability improvement.
Personal Attributes:
High ethical standards, integrity, and reliability in managing confidential financial information.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
