Job Description
The Field Service & Technical Support Engineer plays a crucial role in the deployment, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical support of telecommunications infrastructure, including radio, satellite, fiber optic networks, and related systems.
This position combines hands-on field installation with remote and on-site technical support, ensuring optimal network performance and reliable service delivery.
The ideal candidate is adept at problem-solving, customer support, and technical diagnostics, delivering quality service to meet both client and company standards.
Key Responsibilities
System Installation and Configuration:
Install, configure, and test telecom systems such as radio, satellite, and fiber optic networks, ensuring full functionality according to industry and client standards.
Conduct site assessments and prepare for system installations, optimizing signal and connectivity strength at each location.
Technical Support and Customer Assistance:
Serve as the primary point of contact for technical support, both on-site and remotely, diagnosing and resolving network, equipment, and connectivity issues.
Provide guidance to clients, troubleshooting issues via phone, email, and in-person, ensuring efficient resolution and customer satisfaction.
Deliver training and instructions to clients, assisting them in understanding and utilizing telecom systems.
Field Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
Perform detailed diagnostics and on-site repairs, microwave radio installation, spectrum analyzers, and other network testing equipment to ensure rapid issue resolution and minimize service downtime.
Address both routine and complex issues with field-deployed equipment, identifying root causes, and implementing preventative measures.
Network Performance Optimization:
Conduct regular site visits to inspect and maintain telecom equipment, ensuring optimal performance, minimal signal disruption, and strong connectivity.
Monitor and fine-tune network settings, equipment configurations, and signal quality to optimize system performance.
Documentation and Reporting:
Keep detailed logs of installations, support activities, and equipment performance, creating reports on technical issues, maintenance actions, and recommended improvements.
Track inventory of field equipment and ensure timely repair, calibration, or replacement to maintain service standards.
Requirements
Education: Degree in Electrical Engineering, Telecommunications, Computer Science, or related field preferred.
Certifications: Relevant industry certifications (e.g., Cisco CCNA, CompTIA Network+, or vendor-specific radio/fiber certifications) are an advantage.
Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years’ experience in telecom field service and technical support, with expertise in radio, satellite, and fiber installations.
Skills:
Proficient with network diagnostic tools, fiber splicing, satellite alignment, and radio equipment calibration.
Strong understanding of IP networking, network protocols, and routing fundamentals.
Familiarity with troubleshooting software, help desk systems, and providing remote support solutions.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is Mandatory
Excellent troubleshooting, problem-solving, and multitasking abilities.
Strong verbal and written communication skills for client support.
Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to travel extensively, work in various outdoor conditions, and handle physically demanding tasks.
