Job Title: Head, Legal and Compliance (Fintech, E-commerce, Payment Experience)

Responsibilities
Support the business in understanding and complying with legal and regulatory requirements when launching fintech and e-commerce related products in Nigeria
Provide expert legal advice on a wide range of fintech matters with a focus on, but not limited to, licensing, B2B and B2C engagement, e-payment, lending, insurance, platform liability, consumer protection, cybersecurity, personal data protection, Anti Money Laundering (AML), advertising and for the day-to-day operations as needed
Draft, review, and revise agreements and other related legal documents, important correspondences, announcement and other publications
Ensure that the legal documents, announcements, publications, and business operations comply with applicable laws and regulations as well as internal policies
Advise the tech and operations teams on suitable solutions on negotiation of agreements for the Company’s interest. Assist the tech and operations teams in the negotiation of agreements as needed
Work in close coordination with external legal advisers and consultants. Ensure that the services provided by external legal advisers and consultants meet the Company’s requirements
Work with cross functional teams of the Company for all legal matters as needed
Monitor the development of the new applicable laws and regulations related to the business operations. Assess, evaluate and inform relevant teams on the impact on such laws and regulations with sounding recommendations to prepare for any changes
Provide comments on the hearing of the proposed new laws and regulations
Assist the the Legal and Policy Advisor in creating and implementing legal policies, rules and guidelines and providing training to other teams on basic legal knowledge related to the business operations
Represent the Company in engaging regulators when requested
Requirements
At least Bachelor’s Degree in law or in relevant fields
7-10 years experience in tech legal and compliance and possess a strong legal knowledge and research skills in one of the following areas: payment, lending, insurance, e-commerce, AML, cybersecurity, and personal data protection
Experience in liaising with direct regulators to obtain fintech related licences such as payment licences
Demonstrated capacity for critical thinking and analysis with strong attention to details
Outstanding written and oral communication skills with an ability to communicate effectively and authoritative to a diverse audience and to explain complex regulatory legislation and principles
Excellence in drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and able to advise stakeholders and management on risks
Experience in identifying legal or compliance risks, investigating and assessing the risks, and formulating legally and commercially sensible solutions advisable to the management team
Proven ability to meet strict deadlines and adapt to changing priorities
Ability to thrive in a fast pace and international environment
Exceptional interpersonal skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams, and collaborate with different business units and technical stakeholders
