Job Description
The Accountant is responsible for managing the financial health and accuracy of the company’s accounts and reporting systems.
The role involves maintaining financial records, preparing reports, managing budgets, and ensuring compliance with accounting principles and regulations.
The accountant will work closely with other departments to ensure accurate financial planning and analysis, including cost management for services, infrastructure investments, and daily operational expenses, all crucial in the company.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports, including balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and cash flow statements.
Conduct variance analysis of actual vs. budgeted performance and provide insights to management.
Support the development of financial models to forecast future ISP revenues, expenses, and cash flows.
Prepare and submit accurate tax filings, ensuring compliance with local tax regulations.
General Accounting:
Maintain general ledger accounts, including reconciling accounts and posting journal entries.
Ensure timely and accurate recording of all financial transactions, including invoicing and accounts payable/receivable.
Perform regular audits and reconciliations of financial records to identify discrepancies and implement corrective measures.
Manage payroll processing and ensure timely payment of salaries and benefits to employees.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Assist in preparing annual budgets and financial plans.
Monitor expenditures against budgets, highlighting areas of concern and providing recommendations for cost control.
Support in planning for capital expenditures, especially related to infrastructure investment for the ISP network.
Compliance and Audit:
Ensure that financial statements comply with international accounting standards (such as IFRS) and local accounting regulations.
Coordinate with external auditors during audits and respond to audit queries.
Implement and maintain effective internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure the integrity of financial records.
Cost and Revenue Management:
Analyze and control costs related to network infrastructure, technology upgrades, and operational expenses.
Collaborate with the sales team to monitor revenue from different ISP services (e.g., broadband, fiber optics, and data packages).
Manage the accounting for customer billing, payments, and collection of overdue accounts.
Track capital expenditures related to new network deployments and ensure proper capitalization and depreciation of assets.
Financial Systems and Tools:
Use accounting software (such as QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP) to ensure efficient management of the company’s financial data.
Recommend improvements to accounting processes and systems to enhance accuracy and efficiency.
Collaborate with IT teams to integrate financial data from various platforms used within the ISP, ensuring accurate reporting and record-keeping.
Qualifications and Skills
Education:
Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
Professional accounting certifications such as ACA, ACCA, CPA, or equivalent are highly desirable.
Experience:
3 - 5 years of accounting experience, preferably within the ISP, telecommunications, or technology industry.
Strong knowledge of general accounting principles, tax regulations, and financial reporting standards (e.g., IFRS, GAAP).
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in using accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or SAP) and Microsoft Excel for financial analysis.
Familiarity with billing systems and financial tools commonly used.
Experience with cost accounting and financial modeling for capital-intensive industries.
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent attention to detail and accuracy.
Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams.
Time management skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Salary
N300,000 - N400,000 monthly.
