Job Title: Design Intern (NYSC)
Location: Nigeria
Job Summary
The Designer will support the Lead Designer and design team in all aspects of the design process, from initial concept development to final installation.
He/she must a strong portfolio of design work, and a passion for creating innovative and functional spaces.
Communicating directly with managers, project managers, marketing personnel, and clients to discuss and organize projects from original conceptual design through construction.
Principal Duties / Responsibilities
Design:
Knowledge of principles of managing research for design creation and development, methods for managing stakeholders, design failures and defects, and preventive measures to address design failures and defects.
Encourage the utilization of relevant design approaches and techniques to achieve design solutions
Review progress and determine the adequacy of various phases in the design creation and development processes
Communicate with internal and external parties to articulate design intentions and obtain feedback during the design process
Assess gaps within the design processes and develop appropriate remedial strategies
Oversee decisions regarding overall design creation and development
Facilitate multi-disciplinary collaborations as well as brainstorming sessions
Review, evaluate and modify designs to suit authority requirements and meet design intentions.
3D Modelling:
Analyze 3D models and conduct scenario visualization to validate project plans and design quality
Run simulations to test 3D models
Test what-if scenarios
Validate project plans
Test feasibility of designs
Identify problems with design quality
Ensure project plans and designs are compliant with relevant and prevailing regulatory standards
Explore and apply key animation principles and techniques to create 3D animation for VR optimization.
Design Standards and Specification:
Support the establishment of design standards and specifications to facilitate designs’ fulfilment of regulatory requirements, and drive strategies to enhance quality of designs
Keep track of the cost impact of changes to design standards and specifications for the organisation
Support the lead designer in guiding the revision of procedures and standards for technical documentation.
Design and Aesthetic Sensibility:
Establish overall conceptual frameworks to define the organisation’s sense of aesthetics and correlate aesthetics to overall organisational success
Support the development of the overall brand identities of products, and ensuring coherence of brand elements across all product and service lines
Define desired experiences that are associated with particular aesthetic styles
Support the overall sense of aesthetic for the organisation’s creative design work
Embed deeper brand identities and philosophies into product design aesthetics
Support lead designer in driving the development of aesthetically pleasing products that make lasting impressions with audiences
Support lead designer in driving the art direction for new aesthetics, expressions and forms for design projects and creative work.
Design for safety, sustainability and maintainability:
Develop design plans to ensure compliance with Design Safety measures to eliminate or reduce the safety and health risks during the project lifecycle
Implement and monitor risk control measures
Verify that all information provided by the developer or contractor for the project has been accounted for
Communicate residual risks to main stakeholders for further mitigation
Review documentation of safety and health issues identified during the design review process and actions taken
Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop maintainable and sustainable designs.
Qualification and Experience
Minimum of Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Interior Design or related field
No work experience is needed.
Skills and Competency Requirements:
Proficient in Sketchup,Vray or Enscape, Revit, Illustrator or other design programs
Excellent portfolio of previous works
Creative talent, imagination and eye for design
Communication and presentation skills.
