The Claims / Insurance and Legal Manager will oversee the claims and insurance department within the and ensure that all claims are processed accurately and timely while also providing satisfactory customer service.
Main Task
Accountable for and oversees all claims, unclaimed cargo, and insurance matters
Responsible for claims processing, negotiating settlements, verifying insurance coverage, and reviewing insurance cases.
Ensure claims handling protocols are followed up appropriately and ensure claims, unclaimed and insurance work are done timely
Update all claims and insurance documents and create file for each client claim
Ensure all third-party claims are fully recovered on damage to our containers, ships, or clients’ cargo
Notify ZIMINS & GSLINS of any new development concerning damage to cargo/ship/containers and ensure all claims are forwarded to ZIMINS & GSLINS for investigation and directives
Attend and appear in court to all court cases on behalf of ZIM/GSL/LANSAL
Update and reporting legal cases quarterly to HO Legal department
Arrange joint inspection on cargo damage, damage to ship and damage to containers and company properties
Invite third party for joint inspection when any discrepancies or damages is traced to them both on board the vessel, cargo, and container, to hold them liable as well for any claim that may arise. E.g., Terminals, Transporters etc
Update and reporting legal cases quarterly to Head Office Legal department and Liaise with our company lawyer on all legal matters
Organize and plan daily activities including meetings, follow-up calls and appointment
Attend any issue concerning Company’s Insurance policies, local and international. (The international is for Error and Omission Insurance Policy).
To respond to various cases from other department about our clients, by carrying out investigation and respond to the clients and various authorities accordingly
Attend to various invite from government parastatals e.g. POLICE, EFCC, CUSTOMS and others
Issue letters for payment and returns of unreturned empties, hijacked containers (OICF & OCLE).
To inform the Insurer within 72 hours in case of any accident, theft or damage to the company’s vehicles and properties and any addition or deletion of any item to the policy
To see that all company properties and assets are insured against uncertainty
Constantly communicate with Africa countries on claims
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Law and qualified to practice in Nigeria (L.L.B. and B.L)
Between 8-10 years prior experience in similar capacity
Strong relationship management, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Good command of written and spoken in English
High level of proficiency in Microsoft office, including Excel, Word, Power Point, Web-based and email programs.
