Job Title: GBV Prevention Officer
Location: Maiduguri, Borno (with frequent travels to field bases)
Employment Type: Full-time
Reporting to: Senior GBV Officer
Time frame: 3 months – with possibility of extension
General Description
The GBV Prevention Officer will lead efforts to design, implement, and manage gender-based violence (GBV) prevention programs within vulnerable communities. This role focuses on raising awareness, building local capacity, and fostering community engagement to reduce and prevent instances of GBV.
The Officer will collaborate with community members, leaders, volunteers, and partners to ensure the effective delivery of GBV prevention activities, including training, workshops, and mass awareness events. Additionally, the GBV Prevention Officer will monitor program progress, gather data, and provide reports to ensure the impact and sustainability of interventions.
Job Roles & Responsibilities
Develop and implement GBV prevention programs, campaigns, and activities tailored to community needs.
Conduct assessments to identify GBV risks and design community-based interventions for vulnerable populations.
Collaborate with community members, leaders, and local organizations through volunteers to raise awareness about GBV and promote access to services via an updated referral pathway.
Monitor, supervise, and build the capacity of community volunteers to carry out mobilization, sensitization, awareness-raising, and educational activities in camps and local communities.
Spearhead and support NCA and partners in planning and mobilizing communities for mass awareness campaigns and calendar events such as International Women’s Day, Girl Child Day, and the 16 Days of Activism.
Facilitate training sessions, workshops, and dialogues on GBV prevention, gender equality, GBV Case Coordination (GBV CC), and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and work with stakeholders to develop action plans.
Provide training and support to local staff, volunteers, and partners on GBV prevention and response strategies.
Equip community members and stakeholders with knowledge and tools to prevent GBV in their local contexts.
Participate in coordination meetings and networks focused on gender-based violence and women's rights.
Engage in campaigns and policy dialogues to promote gender equality and protection for vulnerable groups.
Track progress of GBV prevention activities, gather data, and prepare reports on program outcomes.
Monitor the impact of interventions to ensure they are effective and sustainable.
Ensure that survivors are referred to appropriate services (health, legal, psychological) when needed.
Oversee the facilitation and implementation of GBV prevention strategies, such as male engagement activities, the SASA Together! approach, and other transformative programs by NCA and partners.
Support ongoing community engagement to promote acceptance of GBV prevention activities and approaches.
Monitor and supervise partner activities (e.g., CCN) to ensure compliance with program objectives.

Qualifications & Experience
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Social Sciences or a related field (e.g., Gender Studies, Public Health, Social Work, Humanities, Law, Psychology, Sociology).
Experience in Gender Programming: 2-5 years of relevant experience, with at least 2 years focused on GBV in emergencies, gender equality, or women’s rights programming.
Experience:
INGO Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience working with an International Non-Governmental Organization (INGO), ideally in a humanitarian or emergency context.
Team Collaboration: Experience working within a relatively large, multidisciplinary team.
Policy Compliance: Ability to independently enforce compliance with internal control procedures and policies, ensuring program integrity.
Capacity Building and Supervision: Experience in supervising staff or community volunteers and building their capacity to implement GBV prevention and response programs.

Community Engagement Experience: Proven experience in working with community groups, community leaders, and women’s empowerment initiatives, including facilitating training and community-based interventions.
Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with fluency in the local language and the ability to deliver presentations, training, and workshops effectively.
Computer Literacy: Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other relevant software.
Fieldwork Readiness: Willingness to travel frequently to field sites and engage with communities, particularly in peri-urban and IDP camp settings, while managing GBV programs and activities like Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS).
