Job Title: Chief Operating Officer (COO)

Job Summary
The Chief Operating Officer reports to the Chief Executive Officer.
He/She oversees the bank's day-to-day operational functions, ensuring that all activities align with the institution's strategic goals and objectives.
The COO manages the operational aspects of various business units, including Finance, IT, and Corporate Services, while driving operational efficiency, enhancing service delivery, and implementing effective risk management practices.
The role involves developing and executing operational strategies, optimizing resource allocation, and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
As a key member of the executive leadership team, the COO collaborates with the CEO and other senior executives to shape and execute the bank's long-term strategy, ensuring that the organization's operations are aligned with its mission and values.
Responsibilities
Collaborate with the CEO and other senior executives in the formulation and execution of the bank’s long-term strategy, ensuring that operational functions are aligned with strategic goal
Translate strategic objectives into actionable business plans, ensuring operational targets and financial goals are met
Drive the operational aspects of key projects, focusing on delivering high-quality infrastructure finance solutions.
Coordinate the development and implementation of annual operating and strategic plans for Finance, ESG, IT, HR, and other business units.
Ensure the Bank’s technology, services, and resources are in line with regulatory standards and optimized for performance
Oversee the development and implementation of policies, processes, and controls across all business units.
Manage operational risk and ensure adherence to the Bank’s risk management policies and internal controls.
Ensure seamless integration of new systems and technologies to enhance operations and client experience.
Work closely with the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to develop operational budgets, monitor financial performance, and ensure cost-effectiveness.
Analyze financial and operational data to assess performance against set KPIs, recommending adjustments where necessary.
Manage operational risks by implementing a robust risk management framework that aligns with regulatory guidelines and best practices.
Ensure that all operations adhere to local, regional, and international financial regulations and corporate governance standards.
Provide effective communication and guidance to relevant departments across the Bank, demonstrating strategic awareness, and ensuring that all business functions operate effectively.
Share and collaborate with the management team on best practices to drive operational excellence and superior service delivery.
Identify, build, and maintain strong relationships with key external stakeholders, including clients, community leaders, regulatory bodies, government agencies, investors, and industry partners, in alignment with the organization's strategy and needs.
Collaborate with external auditors, legal consultants, and regulators to ensure operational compliance.
Identify areas for change, assess the impact, and establish a roadmap for implementing change initiatives.
Align change efforts with the bank's overall strategy, ensuring consistency with its mission and values.
Communicate the need for change, address stakeholder concerns, and secure buy-in.
Coordinate cross-functional teams, monitor progress, and resolve issues during implementation.
Measure performance, gather feedback, and assess the impact of change while ensuring compliance and mitigatingrisks.
Develop and implement procurement strategies that align with the bank's operational goals, ensuring effectiveresource allocation and cost efficiency.
Oversee vendor selection, evaluation, and contract negotiations, ensuring value for money and timely delivery of services
Ensure compliance with local laws and international standards, managing procurement risks, and vendor adherence to Service Level Agreements (SLAs)
Monitor and control procurement expenses, identifying opportunities for savings while staying within budget.
Lead high-value contract negotiations, ensuring favorable terms and effective management of procurement contract.
Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Banking & Finance, Economics, Business Administration, Accounting, or a related field.
Minimum of fifteen (15) years of relevant experience with at least 5 years at management level.
Postgraduate qualification, preferably an MBA degree.
Relevant Professional qualification required.eg (CIBN, PMP, CIPM)
Proven track record of managing multiple business units and facilitating progressive organizational change and development within a growing organization.
Experience interacting at the C-Suite level, with oversight of operations, IT, corporate communication, procurement, and other support services functions
Superior strategic agility evidenced by quick problem identification, insightfulness, “out-of-the-box” thinking
Relatively good financial management skills, with the ability to analyze complex financial data and provide actionable insights.
Expertise in identifying and mitigating operational risks in a financial institution.
Ability to think long-term and strategically, with a focus on operational efficiency and business development.
Working knowledge of IT/Business infrastructure and MS Office tools
