Instrument technician role installs, tests, inspects, maintains, repairs, overhauls and calibrates instrument equipment, ensuring the equipment is maintained in compliance with Chevron procedures and industry standards.
The role is also responsible for equipment safety, inventory management and ensuring the System of Record remains updated with relevant maintenance related information.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery on work group goals, objectives and activities, understanding the operational workings of equipment, maintenance activities and processes to ensure seamless operations and minimal down time of critical equipment.
Identifying and resolving operational and technical problems involving instrument devices (transmitters, analyzers, control valves, PSVs) and control loops.
Safely executing routine/corrective maintenance and repair work
Maintaining concise equipment records such as calibrations, set points and repair history within the system of record.
Able to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) – JDE Edwards E1 knowledge is desirable.
Functioning as a member of the emergency response team organization (ORT and Coxswain activities).
What You Will Bring
Qualification:
BSc / HND / OND (Second Class Honours, Upper Division/Upper Credit) in Engineering is desirable; however, a degree with applicable technical industry experience within the instrument discipline may be considered.
Successfully completed training as an Instrument technician within the Oil and Gas or petrochemical industry.
Completed training in the instrument craft trade/technical field, e.g. Instrument Technician, Instrument Fire and Gas or Controls technician.
Experience:
5 -15 years post-graduation experience in a heavy industry environment (Oil and gas, refining, chemical plants, pulp/paper plants, etc.) as instrument technician.
Fire & gas and controls technician experience will be an added advantage secondary.
Expertise:
In depth, demonstrated understanding of Instrumentation, Commissioning, Calibration, Preventive Maintenance, Distributed Control System (DCS), Process Control, Control Valves, Loop Checking, Transmitters, and switches.
Reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings and blueprints. Reading and interpreting meters, gauges, charts, and various instruments. Reading and interpreting design manuals, P&IDs, and preparing clear written and verbal reports as required.
Clear understanding and interpretation of cause-and-effect logic diagrams, wiring schematics, P&ID drawings, and instrument datasheets.
Competent in the use of instrument/tools (Emerson AMS Trex Device Communicator/Hart 375 &475 Field Communicator, loop calibrators and variety of Multimeters and Process meters, etc.) to perform maintenance and repair of instrumentation for level, flow, pressure, temperature, position, and water analysis, etc.
Ability to use the computer and related software to program controllers and analyze control loops.
Knowledgeable in process safety hazards, assesses process safety risks, and develops mitigation strategies.
Good understanding of asset integrity, especially maintaining the integrity of dedicated systems.
