Chevron Nigeria Limited (CNL) is one of the largest oil producers in Nigeria and one of its largest investors. In Nigeria, we operate under a joint-venture arrangement with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) for the onshore and offshore assets in the Niger Delta region.
Chevron also has extensive interests in multipartner deepwater operations. We operate the Agbami Field, one of Nigeria’s largest deepwater discoveries. We also have a nonoperated interest in the Usan Field.
The Electrical Specialist installs, tests, inspects, maintains, repairs, overhauls and troubleshoots electrical power systems, ensuring the equipment is maintained in compliance with Chevron procedures and Industry standards.
The role is also responsible for equipment safety, inventory management and ensuring the System of Record remains updated with relevant maintenance related information.
Key Responsibilities
Delivery of work group goals, objectives and activities, understanding the operational workings of equipment, maintenance activities and processes to ensure seamless operations and minimal down time of critical equipment.
Identifying and resolving operational and technical problems involving equipment control systems including instrumentation devices, control loops and process logic.
Safely executing routine/corrective maintenance and repair work
Maintain concise equipment records such as calibrations, set points and repair history within the System of Record.
Able to use a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS) – JDE Edwards E1 knowledge is desirable.
What You Will Bring
Qualification:
B.Sc / HND (Second Class Honours, Upper Division / Upper Credit) in Electrical Engineering.
Successfully completed training as an Electrical technician within the Oil and Gas, refining, petrochemical, pulp/paper industry.
Completed training in the electrical craft trade/technical field e.g. Electrical Technician, Electrical Equipment Field Service Rep (FSR).
Knowledge and application of industry standards such as IEEE, NEC, IEC, etc.
Experience:
5 -15 years relevant experience post-graduation in heavy industry environment (Oil and gas, refining, chemical plants, pulp/paper plants, etc.).
Expertise:
In depth, demonstrated understanding and experience of high, medium and low voltage 3-phase power systems up to 15KV.
Demonstrated experience troubleshooting very technical electrical power & control systems problems.
Proven experience working with 3-phase high voltage switchgear, transformers, alternators, power generators, electrical motors, and uninterrupted power supply (UPS) systems as well as variable speed drive systems.
Strong familiarity with electrical power protection systems and relay coordination logic philosophies.
Knowledge of instrumentation, Commissioning, Calibration, Preventive Maintenance, Distributed Control System (DCS), Process Control, Control Valves, Loop Checking, Transmitters, analyzers, switches as well as fire & gas systems.
Competent in the use of instruments/tools such as electrical resistance measuring meters and polarization devices to perform maintenance and repair of electrical equipment.
Reading and interpreting manuals, specifications, drawings and blueprints. Reading and interpreting meters, gauges, charts, and various instruments. Reading and interpreting design manuals, P&IDs, and preparing clear written and verbal reports as required.
Clear understanding and interpretation of cause-and-effect logic diagrams, wiring schematics, P&ID drawings, instrument datasheets and electrical one-line diagrams.
Knowledgeable in process safety hazards, assesses process safety risks, and develops mitigation strategies.
Good understanding of asset integrity, especially maintaining the integrity of dedicated systems.
