Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious international aid organization. Our teams are committed to supporting civilians’ victims of marginalization and exclusion, or hit by natural disasters, wars, and economic collapses, by answering their fundamental needs. Our aim is to provide emergency relief to uprooted people to help them recover their dignity and regain self-sufficiency. The PUI Nigerian mission was officially opened in April 2016, with a focus on meeting urgent needs, including improving access to food commodities, primary health care and nutrition for internally displaced people (IDP) and host communities (HC) living in Maiduguri metropolitan council (MMC).
Under the technical supervision of the health and nutrition Project Manager and the line management of the health facility medical officer, the MBC Nurse will run and develop the provision of activities within the mother and Baby Corner in the OTP/SC/HF.
This include performing the mother & child activities, to collaborate with health/nutrition staffs to integrate MBC activities within the HF/SC and to monitor and report on activities on regular bases to the base office through the medical officer and coordination team through the health and nutrition manager.
Tasks and Responsibilities
To promote, protect and advocate for optimal Health and Nutrition practices through the implementation of MIYCN activities.
To perform the activities within the MBC with the mothers and the babies
To conduct group psychoeducational sessions with mothers/caregivers
To assess, identify and refer beneficiaries with mild-moderate psychological distress
To contribute to develop MBC activities and its inclusion within the SC/HF with the close support of health and nutrition Project manager and the PSS advisor in coordination
To ensure the day-to-day monitoring of the overall activity and provide regular reports to Base and coordination offices.
To attend on job and refresher trainings and supervision sessions led by the technical Manager.
To facilitate on the job trainings and sessions on best childcare practices that complement positive medical outcome for admitted children
Entertaining children and mothers at the MBC centre and ensure psychological support and general wellbeing.
Specific Goals and Related Activities
Implementation of the mother and Baby Corner’s activities:
Welcome the beneficiaries and provide systematic individual consultation with new beneficiaries.
Provide day-to-day psychosocial activities (including mother & child group activities and identification of severe distress)
Participate actively on the design of MBC planning of activities according to beneficiary needs and feasibility.
Perform the activities in accordance with international Care Practices standards: Baby bath, baby massage, playing session with mother and infants, etc.
Monitoring and Reporting:
Daily monitoring and data collection on beneficiary participation and satisfaction
Regular meetings with the health and nutrition Supervisor for technical support
Develop weekly summary reports on activity progress based on data collected.
Communication:
Ensure the MBC visibility within the OTP/ SC/HF
Ensure the promotion of MBC activities toward beneficiaries.
Ensure the promotion of understanding of the MBC approach among beneficiaries and stakeholders.
Team Management:
Under the direct management of: /Medical officer/ Health/Nutrition Project Manager
