Job Summary
We are seeking a talented and passionate Tie and Dye tutor to join our team, specializing in providing hands-on sewing and tailoring instruction to adolescents and young children.
This role involves teaching basic sewing skills, garment construction techniques, and fostering creativity and confidence in young learners.
The ideal candidate will be AYP with the required skill to make visually appealing textiles and materials with excellent communication skills, and a genuine interest in nurturing the creativity and skills of other young individuals.
Past beneficiaries of the AYP Hub, Mushin are especially encouraged to attend.
Responsibilities
Sewing Instruction:
Develop and implement age-appropriate Tie and Dye curriculum and lesson plans for adolescents and young children, covering basic to intermediate Tie and Dye techniques.
Teach fundamental skills to creating visually appealing materials using Tie and Dye.
Demonstrate proper use of Tie and Dye tools and equipment, ensuring safety and proper maintenance.
Garment Construction:
Guide students through the process of garment color selection and pattern design.
Fabric Selection and Care:
Educate students on different types of fabrics, their characteristics, and suitability for various projects.
Discuss fabric care and maintenance techniques, including washing, pressing, and storing fabric to prolong its lifespan.
Creative Projects and Design:
Inspire creativity and individuality through individualized and personalized Tie and Dye projects and design challenges.
Encourage students to explore their personal style and express themselves through fabric and color selection, and customization.
Mentorship and Support:
Provide guidance, encouragement, and constructive feedback to students, helping them build confidence and develop their sewing skills.
Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment where all students feel valued and empowered to learn and grow.
Qualifications
Related vocational certifications if applicable.
SSCE minimum.
Experience teaching adolescents and young people.
Competencies:
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to engage and connect with young persons.
A deep understanding of tailoring, sewing, and garment construction techniques.
Ability to demonstrate and teach proper use of tailoring tools and machines to their students.
Ability to design and deliver effective lessons to their students.
Patience, empathy, and a genuine passion for working with adolescents and young people.
Other Requirements:
Willingness to undergo background checks and any necessary certifications related to working with children.
Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, to accommodate class schedules and events.
