COREN, formerly known as the Council of Registered Engineers of Nigeria, was established by Decree No. 55 of 1970. It was subsequently amended by Decree No. 27 of 1992, and in 2004 it was referred to as the Engineers (Registration, etc.) Act, CAP E11. The Act was further amended in 2018, and is now known as the Engineers (Registration, etc.) Act (as Amended).
COREN was established as a statutory body of the Federal Government of Nigeria and charged with the general duty of determining who are engineering practitioners, upholding the standards of knowledge and skills to be attained by potential engineering practitioners, establishment, maintenance and publishing of a register of persons entitled to practice as registered engineering practitioners including the regulation and control of engineering education, training and practices in all its aspects and ramifications in Nigeria. Section 4 of the COREN Act (2018) as amended made provision for the Council to appoint a Registrar, who is the Chief Executive Officer and Secretary of the Council.

Job Description
The main responsibility of the Registrar is to prepare and maintain, in accordance with rules made by the Council a register of the names, addresses and approved qualifications, and of such other particulars as may be specified, of all persons who are entitled in accordance with the provisions of this Act, to be registered as Engineering Practitioners.
Responsibilities
The job of the Registrar is a full-time duty and he/she is the Chief Executive Officer and Chief Accounting Officer of COREN and shall be answerable to the Council through the President and Chairman of the Council.
The successful candidate would be expected to provide the requisite professional and administrative advice to the Council and leadership to the staff of the registry as stipulated in the COREN Act.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualification:
The candidate should possess a Bachelor's Degree in any Engineering Discipline or its equivalent and should have been registered with COREN.
The candidate should be a Corporate Member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers.
The candidate must have a minimum of 25 years post graduate cognate working experience relevant to the engineering profession.
The age of the candidate must not be above 60 years athis /her first appointment.
Other Qualifications:
The following additional qualifications will be an added advantage:
Higher Engineering Degree such as Master's, Ph.D.
Degrees and Professional Qualifications in Accounting, Law, Business Administration and Management
Membership of Professional / Management / Administrative bodies.
Computer proficiency;
Fellowship of Nigerian Society of Engineers.
Terms of Appointment:
The appointment is for a period of Three (3) years in the first instance;
