Job Title: Chinese Translator (HSK5 Proficiency)

Job Description

• The Chinese Translator is responsible for translating documents, conversations, and other materials between Chinese and Englishlanguage.
• This role requires a strong command of both languages, cultural sensitivity, and the ability to deliver accurate translations while maintaining the original context and tone.

Key Responsibilities
Translation of Documents:

• Translate written content such as contracts, legal documents, marketing materials, technical manuals, academic papers, and reports from Chinese to another language (or vice versa).
• Ensure that translations maintain the original meaning, tone, and context.
• Proofread and edit translated materials for accuracy, grammar, and readability.

Interpretation:

• Provide real-time spoken translation (interpretation) during meetings, conferences, interviews, or phone calls.
• Facilitate smooth communication between parties who speak different languages by ensuring accurate interpretation of spoken messages.
• Clarify any cultural references or idiomatic expressions that may not translate directly.

Cultural Sensitivity & Adaptation:

• Adapt translations to be culturally appropriate and ensure that they are aligned with the target audience's customs, values, and practices.
• Provide guidance on cultural nuances that may affect communication, particularly in business or diplomatic settings.

Research & Terminology Management:

• Research technical terms, industry-specific jargon, and specialized vocabulary to ensure accurate translation.
• Maintain a database of frequently used terms and phrases to ensure consistency in translation across documents.

Collaboration & Consultation:

• Work closely with other translators, linguists, or subject matter experts to verify the accuracy of complex or specialized translations.
• Collaborate with project managers, clients, and colleagues to understand the objectives and requirements of each translation project.

Editing & Quality Control:

• Review and edit translations done by others to ensure high-quality, error-free content.
• Implement feedback from clients or team members to improve the clarity, accuracy, and flow of translations.

Confidentiality:

• Maintain strict confidentiality when handling sensitive or classified materials, especially in legal, medical, or corporate environments.
• Ensure all work complies with privacy laws and regulations, especially when handling personal information.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Translation, or a related field.
• Proven fluency in both Chinese (Mandarin or Cantonese) and the target language (e.g., English, French, Spanish).
• Professional experience as a translator or interpreter, with demonstrated expertise in written and spoken translation.
• Familiarity with translation software tools (e.g., SDL Trados, MemoQ) is an asset.
• Certification from a recognized translation body (e.g., ATA, CIOL) is a plus.
• Mush have a minimum of HSK 5 Proficiency.

Salary
N200,000 - N250,000 Monthly.
