The Storekeeper is responsible for managing and maintaining the restaurant's inventory of food, beverages, and other supplies.
They ensure that all stock is stored properly, maintain accurate inventory records, and coordinate the timely ordering and restocking of items to support smooth restaurant operations.
Key Responsibilities
Inventory Management:
Receive, inspect, and record deliveries of supplies, food, and beverages.
Regularly update inventory records in line with stock movements, using inventory management software or manual logs.
Monitor stock levels and ensure proper stock rotation (FIFO – First In, First Out).
Conduct routine stock checks to identify shortages, surplus, or expired items.
Report discrepancies between physical stock and recorded inventory to the Restaurant Manager.
Stock Control:
Ensure proper storage of food, beverages, and supplies in line with food safety and hygiene regulations.
Manage and organize the storeroom for easy access and safe handling of all items.
Ensure storage areas are clean, well-maintained, and free from pests or other contaminants.
Label all stock accurately, including expiration dates and storage instructions.
Ordering & Receiving:
Liaise with suppliers and vendors to order necessary items as required by kitchen staff.
Verify quantities, quality, and prices of incoming deliveries against purchase orders and invoices.
Manage supplier relationships, ensuring timely and accurate deliveries of all goods.
Record Keeping:
Maintain detailed and accurate records of stock levels, orders, receipts, and returns.
Update inventory management systems to track stock movements and minimize discrepancies.
Ensure compliance with all food safety regulations by maintaining proper documentation and inspection records.
Cost Control:
Work closely with the Head Chef and Restaurant Manager to ensure cost-effective purchasing of goods.
Identify opportunities to reduce waste or excess spending by monitoring usage trends.
Coordination with Kitchen & Management:
Collaborate with chefs and kitchen staff to ensure all necessary ingredients and supplies are available during service.
Communicate regularly with the Restaurant Manager or Head Chef regarding inventory needs and stock issues.
Health & Safety Compliance:
Ensure all health, safety, and hygiene standards are adhered to when storing or handling food items.
Assist in any health inspections and maintain readiness for food safety audits.
Education & Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Previous experience in a restaurant, hotel, or hospitality setting is a plus.
Certification in food safety and hygiene is an added advantage.
Skills and Qualifications:
Proven experience as a storekeeper or in a similar role, preferably in the food or hospitality industry.
Strong knowledge of inventory control procedures and stock management software.
Familiarity with food safety standards (HACCP) and storage guidelines.
Basic math skills and attention to detail for managing stock levels and orders.
Good organizational skills and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
Ability to lift and move heavy stock as required.
Strong communication skills and the ability to work well with others in a fast-paced environment.
Very Good at using excel.
Working Conditions:
Full-time, may include weekends and holidays.
Physically demanding, with frequent lifting and moving of stock.
