Nnamdi Azikiwe University was established from Anambra State University of Technology (ASUTECH) by Law No. 7 on July 30, 1980. It was nationalized by Decree No. 34 of July 1992 (now CAP. N 139, LFN, 2004), with financial effect from September 1, 1992.

Job Title: Vice-Chancellor

Responsibilities of the Role
The Vice-Chancellor will act as the Chief Executive and Academic Officer, ex-officio Chairman of Senate, and member of the Governing Council.
Duties include overseeing financial management, facilities, administration, and academic programs.
Candidate Requirements
The ideal candidate for the Vice-Chancellor position must:
Hold a good first degree, a master's degree, and a PhD in relevant fields offered by the university.
Be a distinguished Professor with at least 9 years of experience at that rank at a reputable university.
Have obtained a PhD at least 15 years prior to this advertisement and have supervised postgraduate students to completion.
Demonstrate a proven track record of securing substantial research funding, including attracting no less than Four Hundred Million Naira (N400,000,000), and a history of successfully obtaining research grants and other resources to enhance the university's research capabilities, recorded prior to this advert.
Have at least 10 years of service within the university system, demonstrating integrity and competence.
Be no older than 65 years at the time of assuming office, and be able to serve a full five-year term before reaching the retirement age of 70 years.
Possess strong information and communication technology skills relevant to modern academic environments.
Exhibit courage and integrity in decision-making based on facts and principles.
Demonstrate high international visibility and respect within the academic community, evidenced by substantial and justifiable number of research publications and active participation in international learned societies.
Promote collaboration within the university community and stakeholders, devoid of ethnic, religious, or local biases.
Be physically and mentally fit to perform the duties of the role and other responsibilities as directed by the Council.
Terms and Conditions of Service
The salary and conditions of service are consistent with those applicable to Vice-Chancellors of Federal Universities in Nigeria, as determined by the Council.
The Vice-Chancellor will serve a single five-year term.
