Shell Professor of Geophysics at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife

The Obafemi Awolowo University, Ife, is a first generation comprehensive public institution established in 1961 as The University of life, by the then Western Region of Nigeria. In August 1975, the Federal Government of Nigeria took over the University and in 1987 renamed after Chief Obafemi Awolowo, a frontline Nigerian Statesman and one of the University's founding fathers. The University is situated on a vast expanse of land of 11,861 hectares in Ile-Ife, Osun State, Southwest of Nigeria. The Vision of the founders of the University was to establish an institution dedicated to the promotion of learning and culture.

Job Description

• Applications are invited for the position of Shell Professor of Geophysics in the Department of Geology, Obafemi Awolowo University.
• He/She will have a particular responsibility for the development of research programmes of the Department.
• The successful candidate will be required to exert strong academic and intellectual leadership in the Department by participating actively in both teaching and research.
• Candidates may have an interest in any field of Applied Geophysics but should have a commitment and ability both to interact with the Oil industry and to be interested in applied problems.

Qualifications

• Candidates must hold a Ph.D. degree and possess a minimum of at least ten (10) years of research and/or teaching or industrial experience.
• Persons presently below the status of Professor in a recognized institution of Higher learning or Chief Geophysicist in the Oil industry need not apply.
• A working knowledge of the operations of the NNPC-Shell Chair with excellent professional accomplishments and certifications will be an added advantage.
• Evidence of formal pedagogical training is an asset.
• Candidate must be COMEG registered.

Requirements:

• Candidates should have a strong record of research.
• The candidate must possess the ability to administer a dynamic research Department.

Emolument

• The Shell Professor Geophysics will have the status of a family member of SHELL and have access to the operational facilities of the Company.
• The appointment will be made on not less than the maximum approved Federal Government of Nigeria salary scale for a Professor plus a Shell premium and generous fringe benefits.
• The Professor is also entitled to a Secretary and Research Assistant.
• The appointment is initially for four (4) years and is subject to renewal once only on review for a further period of four (4) years.
• The position is available immediately.
