Job Title: Ubuntu Security Technology Manager
Location: Lagos (Remote)
Description
This is an exciting opportunity to work on making Ubuntu the most secure out-of-the-box operating system in the world. The work of the Apparmor team is strategically important to Ubuntu’s security posture, safeguarding both end-users and Canonical's diverse range of products, including Ubuntu Core, Snaps and Microk8s.
You will work alongside fantastic security professionals already onboard at Canonical, and share your time between contributing technically, and managing team members and projects.
You will also get to closely collaborate with various other Canonical Engineering teams (Kernel, Core, Snapd, Foundations), the upstream open source community, and our business partners.
This role would suit either an experienced manager of high performing software development teams, or a very proficient technical lead who is excited to take on a management responsibility.
You will need to be passionate about Linux and aspire to be an integral part in its distribution to millions of users worldwide. This is a Globally remote role
Key Responsibilities
Build and lead a globally distributed team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and hands-on career development
Support timely delivery of technical solutions to address business needs
Provide technical thought leadership for your team and others around Canonical
Advocate and advance modern, agile software development practices
Grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company value
Demonstrated understanding in one or more of the following areas:
Significant programming experience in C, with Python, Golang, or other like languages also highly regarded
Substantial experience with Linux kernel internals and concepts
Solid understanding Linux kernel development principles
deep understanding of Mandatory Access Control systems, such as Apparmor, SELinux or security modules.
Contributed to an open source project in the past
Demonstrated experience in managing or leading software engineering teams
Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
