United Nigeria Airlines is a wholly owned Nigerian company incorporated under the Companies and Allied Matters Act of 1990 at the Corporate Affairs Commission to offer commercial air transportation services under the trade name United Nigeria.
The Chief Security Officer (CSO) is responsible for the development, implementation, and management of the airline’s security strategy, ensuring the safety and security of passengers, employees, aircraft, and facilities.
The CSO oversees all aspects of security operations, including threat assessment, crisis management, regulatory compliance, and liaison with government agencies.
The role requires a strategic thinker with strong leadership skills to manage and mitigate risks in a highly dynamic and regulated environment
Duties / Responsiblities
Security Strategy and Leadership:
Develop and execute a comprehensive security strategy aligned with the airline’s business goals and regulatory requirements
Lead and manage the security team, providing direction, training, and performance management
Collaborate with senior management to integrate security into the airline’s overall strategic planning
Regulatory Compliance:
Ensure compliance with all national and international aviation security regulations, including NCAA, ICAO, and IATA standards
Develop and maintain security policies and procedures by industry best practices and regulatory requirements.
Serve as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies and government agencies related to security matters
Threat Assessment and Risk Management:
Conduct regular threat assessments and risk analyses to identify potential security vulnerabilities
Implement appropriate risk mitigation strategies, including physical security measures, cybersecurity protocols, and personnel security programs
Develop and manage crisis management plans to effectively respond to security incidents, including terrorism, hijacking, and other emergencies
Operational Security:
Oversee the security operations of all airline facilities, including airports, corporate offices, and maintenance sites
Ensure the security of aircraft, passengers, and cargo during all phases of flight operations
Coordinate with airport authorities, law enforcement, and other stakeholders to enhance security at all points of service
Cybersecurity:
Work closely with the IT department to develop and implement robust cybersecurity measures.
Protect the airline’s digital assets, including customer data, operational systems, and communication networks, from cyber threats
Training and Awareness:
Develop and implement security training programs for all employees, including crisis management, emergency response, and security awareness
Foster a culture of security awareness across the organization, ensuring that all employees understand their role in maintaining security
Crisis Management:
Lead the airline’s response to security incidents, coordinating with internal teams, external agencies, and other stakeholders
Conduct post-incident analysis and reporting, implementing lessons learned to improve future security practices
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the security department’s budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to meet security objectives
Stakeholder Engagement:
Establish and maintain relationships with government agencies, industry associations, and other external partners
Represent the airline at industry forums, conferences, and meetings related to aviation security.
Experience & Qualification
Bachelor's Degree in Security Management, Criminal Justice, Aviation Management, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
At least 10-15 years of experience in security management, with a significant portion in the aviation or transportation sector
Extensive knowledge of aviation security regulations, including TSA, Transportation and Security Administration, TSA, NCAA, ICAO, and IATA standards
Proven experience in crisis management, risk assessment, and regulatory compliance
Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress environment.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with stakeholders at all levels.
Certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Aviation Security Professional (AvSecP), or similar are highly desirable.
