Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced Lead Laboratory Technician to manage and oversee the operations of our environmental laboratories, with specializations in wet prov chemistry, microbiology, toxicology, and advanced instrumentation.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for enforcing strict Quality Assurance/ Quality Control (QA/QC) protocols and guaranteeing the technical quality of all laboratory results.
Key Responsibilities
Laboratory Management and Operations:
Oversee daily operations of the environmental laboratory, ensuring efficient workflow and adherence to all safety and regulatory requirements.
Supervise a team of laboratory technicians, providing guidance, training, and mentorship to maintain high standards of performance.
Technical Oversight and Quality Control:
Ensure the technical accuracy and reliability of laboratory results across all disciplines, including wet chemistry, microbiology, toxicology, and instrumentation.
Develop, implement, and monitor QA/QC protocols to maintain the integrity and consistency of laboratory data.
Conduct regular audits and reviews of laboratory procedures and outputs to identify areas for improvement and ensure compliance with industry standards.
Instrumentation and Method Development:
Oversee the operation and maintenance of advanced laboratory instrumentation, ensuring all equipment is calibrated and functioning correctly.
Lead the development and validation of new analytical methods and procedures, keeping the laboratory at the forefront of technological advancements.
Data Management and Reporting:
Ensure accurate and timely recording, analysis, and reporting of laboratory data, maintaining detailed and organized records.
Review and validate test results before submission to clients, ensuring that all data meets the required quality and compliance standards.
Regulatory Compliance and Accreditation:
Ensure laboratory operations comply with all relevant local, national, and international regulations, including environmental and safety standards.
Maintain laboratory accreditation status by ensuring adherence to ISO/IEC 17025 standards and other applicable certifications.
Liaise with regulatory bodies and accreditation agencies to manage audits, inspections, and assessments.
Client Interaction and Support:
Work closely with clients to understand their testing needs, providing technical advice and support as required.
Ensure timely communication of results to clients, addressing any queries or concerns related to laboratory analyses.
RequiredQualifications
Educational Background:
Bachelor's Degree / HND in Chemistry, or a related field; a Master's degree is an advantage as well as registration with relevant bodies such as IPAN, CSN, ICCON.
Experience:
Minimum of 10 years of experience in an environmental laboratory setting, with significant experience in either wet chemistry, microbiology, toxicology or instrumentation.
Proven track record in laboratory management, including supervision of staff and oversight of technical operations.
Technical Expertise:
Extensive knowledge of laboratory QA/QC practices, including method validation, data integrity, and compliance with ISO/IEC 17025 standards.
Proficiency in the operation and maintenance of laboratory instruments such as spectrometers, chromatographs, and microscopes. (UV-Specs, AAS, GC, GC-MS etc)
Experience in developing and implementing new analytical methods and procedures.
