Save the Slum Initiative is a non-governmental organization with registration CAC/IT/NO 139240, STSI was founded in 2016 and is committed to responding to current needs to improve the life of people living in slums and local communities across Nigeria. STSI envisions improving the living standards of vulnerable persons and communities and our overall aim is to work with urban poor to bring about long-term and sustainable transformation to their quality of life and to also provide better community-based healthcare and empowerment education and environmental improvement to all communities that will serve. We intervene in various sectors like WASH, Education, Protection, Nutrition, Health, and Livelihood of humanitarian sectors and community development projects. Since its inception in 2016, STSI have implemented in over 16States in Nigeria.
We are looking for an experienced MEAL Officer to join our team.
The MEAL Officer will play a critical role in ensuring the effectiveness and impact of STSI’s project aimed at revolutionizing Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) to enhance employability and productivity among women, youth, and vulnerable groups in Nigeria.
The MEAL Officer will be responsible for designing, coordinating, and implementing the monitoring and evaluation, accountability, and learning framework of the project.
This role requires a dynamic individual who can lead data collection and analysis, ensure accountability to stakeholders, and facilitate continuous learning to improve project outcomes.
Responsibilities
Monitoring and Evaluation:
Develop MEAL Framework: Design and implement a comprehensive MEAL framework tailored to the project, including clear indicators, data collection tools, and methodologies to track project progress and impact.
Data Collection: Lead the collection of quantitative and qualitative data through surveys, interviews, focus groups, and other methods. Ensure data is gathered accurately, ethically, and in a timely manner.
Data Management: Oversee the entry, storage, and management of data. Ensure data integrity and confidentiality are maintained.
Data Analysis: Analyze data to track progress against project goals and objectives, identify trends, and generate insights to inform decision-making.
Reporting: Prepare detailed and high-quality reports, including monthly, quarterly, and final reports, summarizing findings and providing actionable recommendations for project improvements.
Accountability:
Beneficiary Feedback Mechanism: Establish and manage systems to capture feedback from project beneficiaries, ensuring that their voices are heard and integrated into project planning and implementation.
Transparency and Communication: Ensure transparent communication with beneficiaries and stakeholders about project goals, activities, and outcomes. Maintain a high level of accountability in all project operations.
Compliance: Monitor project activities to ensure compliance with donor requirements, STSI policies, and international standards.
Learning:
Facilitate Learning: Promote a culture of learning within the project team by facilitating regular reflection sessions, learning workshops, and sharing best practices and lessons learned.
Documentation: Document and disseminate case studies, success stories, and lessons learned to internal and external stakeholders to enhance the knowledge base of STSI and inform future projects.
Adaptation: Use learning outcomes to adapt project strategies and activities to improve effectiveness and sustainability.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Statistics, Development Studies, Public Health, or a related field. A Master’s degree or specialized training in M&E or a related discipline is an advantage.
Minimum of 3 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation, preferably in the humanitarian or development sector, with a focus on education, livelihoods, or related fields.
Demonstrated experience in designing and implementing MEAL frameworks and conducting data analysis.
Experience with gender-responsive programming and working with marginalized groups, particularly women and youth.
Skills:
Analytical Skills: Strong ability to analyze complex data sets, identify trends, and draw actionable insights.
Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in data management and analysis software (e.g., Excel, SPSS, STATA, PowerBI) and familiarity with mobile data collection tools (e.g., Kobo Toolbox, CommCare).
Communication: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce high-quality reports and facilitate learning sessions.
Project Management: Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
Cultural Sensitivity: Ability to work effectively in diverse cultural settings and with vulnerable populations.
