We are recruiting to fill the position below:
Job Title:Community Health Worker
Location: Zamfara
Key Responsibilities
Conduct household visits to deliver nutrition and hygiene education, focusing on best practices for infant and young child feeding (IYCF) and maternal nutrition.
Support and promote breastfeeding and complementary feeding practices among pregnant and lactating women (PLW) and mothers of children aged 0-23 months.
Facilitate nutrition and hygiene promotion sessions at the community level, educating beneficiaries on safe food handling, proper hygiene practices, and disease prevention.
Assist in the identification and registration of beneficiaries for the project, ensuring accurate data collection and record-keeping.
Perform regular MUAC screenings for children and PLW to detect cases of malnutrition and refer them to appropriate treatment centers.
Collaborate with Community Nutrition Mobilizers (CNMs) and volunteers to coordinate activities and ensure a unified approach to health and nutrition education.
Provide continuous support and follow-up with beneficiaries to reinforce key messages and monitor the adoption of recommended practices.
Participate in the organization and facilitation of cash-out sessions, assisting with beneficiary management and ensuring a smooth and secure distribution process.
Collect and report data on the health and nutritional status of beneficiaries, contributing to project monitoring and evaluation efforts.
Engage with community leaders and members to promote the project and encourage community participation and ownership.
Qualifications
OND / HND / BSc.; additional training in health, nutrition, or community development is an advantage.
At least 2 years of experience working in community health, nutrition, or a related field, preferably in a humanitarian or development context.
Knowledge of basic nutrition and hygiene practices, particularly related to IYCF and maternal nutrition.
Experience conducting health education and promotion activities at the community level.
Ability to engage effectively with community members, including vulnerable populations, and build trust within the community.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to convey health and nutrition information clearly and sensitively.
Familiarity with the local context and cultural practices in Zamfara State.
Fluency in local languages is highly desirable; basic proficiency in English is an asset.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team, with a strong commitment to improving the health and well-being of the community.
Demonstrated integrity and ethical behavior in working with vulnerable populations.
