The Usmanu Danfodiyo University, Sokoto (formerly University of Sokoto) is one of the four Universities established by the Federal Government of Nigeria in September 1975, at which time three University Colleges (now full-fledged Universities) were established. The development of the university started on a temporary site (now called City Campus), situated along Sultan Abubakar Road, Sokoto. classes started in October 20th, 1977, with an initial enrolment of ninety-three undergraduate students for the degrees of Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Arts/Science in Education and Bachelor of Science; and an academic staff strength of thirty-three. Presently, there are Ten faculties and a postgraduate school in the University.

Job Description
The Librarian is a Principal Officer and the Head of the University Library.
He/she is a holder of an academic position who is responsible to the Vice Chancellor for the administration of the University Library and co-ordination of all Library services in the University and its campuses, colleges, faculties, schools, departments, institutes and other teaching or research units in accordance with section 6 (3) of the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No. 11 of 1993 (as amended).
Requirements
Candidates for this post must possess a good bachelor's Degree in Library Science or related field, plus Masters and Ph.D Degrees in Library Science from recognized Universities.
with at least fifteen (15) years relevant experience, preferably in a University or other institutions of higher learning.
The candidate must be Information and Communication Technology (ICT) compliant and command respect and be able to carry colleagues along. Candidates should have proven records of Research and Publications as well as administrative leadership.
The candidate must not be more than sixty (60) years at the time of assumption of office.
Salary and Conditions of Service
The remuneration and other conditions of service are as applicable to the post of a Librarian in Nigerian Federal Universities and as may be determined from time to time by the Federal Government of Nigeria/Governing Council as appropriate.
In accordance with the Universities (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act No. 11 of 1993 (as amended), the successful candidate shall hold office for five (5) years in the first instance. The appointment may, however, be extended for one (1) year and no more. Fringe benefits include pension in consonance with the Contributory Pension Scheme and appropriate allowances as may be approved from time to time by the Government/University Council.
