Job Description
We are searching for an experienced metallurgical laboratory technician for our mining and precious stone laboratories, with a focus on gold refining and purification processes (inquartation process), electrolytic refining, chlorination, or acid leaching processes, skills, and the ability to approach business from a creative point of view.
The role of a metallurgical laboratory technician in the mining industry is critical for ensuring the safety and profitable operation of gold mining activities.
Work in collaboration with the Executive Director of Operations in setting and driving the laboratory processes and strategy, and you must have proficiency in metallurgical lab testing and equipment operation.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Collection & Preparation:
Work effectively with gold nugget samples from various locations.
Ensure proper preparation of samples according to testing protocols.
Equipment Maintenance:
Maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
Troubleshoot and report any issues with lab equipment to the supervisor for timely repairs.
Process efficiency and quality control
Perform process efficiency tests to assess the performance of the processing laboratory equipment.
Monitor key performance indicators such as acid leaching processes, output reagent consumption, and metallurgical balances.
assist in the development and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory practices.
Data Management and Reporting
Maintain accurate records of all test results, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
Prepare and submit regular reports on laboratory activities and test outcomes to the Executive Director of Operations.
Continuous Improvement
Support continuous improvement initiatives by identifying and recommending process optimization opportunities at all times.
Collaborate with the Executive Director of Operations to improve overall laboratory performance.
Job Qualifications
Candidates should possess a Bachelor`s Degree in Mineral Processing Engineering, Geology, Geo-Physics, Chemistry, Materials Sciences, or Metallurgy
At least 5–10 years of hands-on experience working in a metallurgical laboratory, preferably in a mining environment (experience in gold, diamond, or other mineral processing environments is an advantage).
Specialized training or certification in gold processing techniques and laboratory procedures. experience working in a laboratory setting, preferably with precious metals.

Understanding of metallurgical principles, chemical reactions, and analytical testing methods.
Ability to follow detailed protocols and maintain meticulous records.

Thorough understanding of hazardous materials handling, storage, and disposal protocols.
Knowledge of relevant safety regulations and industry standards for working with precious metals.
Ability to use personal protective equipment (PPE) properly.
Commitment to maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.
Implement and comply with SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment, and Quality) management systems.
Participate in safety audits and inspections as required.
