Job Title: Resident Veterinary Doctor
Location: Awe, Oyo
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Purpose
Develop and implement poultry health management protocols to maintain optimal flock health and welfare.
Develop and implement biosecurity protocols to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases within the facility.
Roles and Responsibilities
Conduct routine medical care, including vaccinations, deworming, and administering medications.
Respond to emergencies and provide medical attention to sick or injured birds.
Conduct regular health checks and monitor the flock to identify and prevent potential health issues.
Conduct diagnostic tests and laboratory analyses to identify and treat illnesses and diseases.
Collaborate with external veterinarians to ensure compliance with regulatory standards and to develop treatment plans.
Develop and implement biosecurity protocols to prevent disease outbreaks.
Maintain accurate records of treatments, medications, and vaccinations.
Conduct training sessions for farm staff to promote bird health and welfare.
Coordinate with other departments to maintain the health and welfare of the flock.
Conduct research and keep up-to-date with the latest developments in poultry health management biosecurity protocols to prevent the introduction and spread of diseases within the facility.
Requirements
Experience:
Minimum of 2-5 years of experience in poultry veterinary medicine, preferably in a commercial poultry farm setting.
Proven track record of managing poultry health and disease control programs.
Experience in diagnosing and treating common poultry diseases, injuries, and health issues.
Knowledge of biosecurity protocols and best practices for disease prevention and control in poultry farms.
Familiarity with vaccination programs, medication administration, and treatment protocols for poultry species.
Experience in conducting post-mortem examinations and interpreting laboratory test results.
Understanding of poultry nutrition, housing requirements, and environmental management practices.
Experience in managing and training farm staff on poultry health and biosecurity protocols.
Strong record-keeping and documentation skills, with the ability to maintain accurate health records and reports.
Knowledge of relevant regulations, guidelines, and standards governing animal health and welfare in poultry farming.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with farm managers, veterinarians, and other stakeholders.
Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and make sound decisions under pressure in a fast-paced farm environment.
Education:
Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) degree from an accredited veterinary school.
Valid license to practice veterinary medicine in the relevant jurisdiction.
