Job Description
The Financial Controller is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the microfinance bank, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and effective management of financial resources.
This role involves leading the finance team, developing financial strategies, and supporting the bank's strategic goals.
Responsibilities
Financial Reporting and Analysis:
Oversee the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
Analyze financial data to provide insights and recommendations to senior management.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
Budgeting and Forecasting:
Lead the annual budgeting process, collaborating with department heads to develop realistic budgets.
Monitor budget performance and provide variance analysis to identify areas for improvement.
Prepare financial forecasts and projections to support strategic planning.
Internal Controls and Compliance:
Develop and implement robust internal controls to safeguard the bank’s financial assets.
Ensure compliance with all financial and regulatory requirements, including tax and audit obligations.
Coordinate with external auditors and manage the audit process.
Cash Flow Management:
Monitor and manage the bank’s cash flow to ensure adequate liquidity for operations.
Develop cash flow forecasts and implement strategies to optimize cash management.
Manage relationships with banks and other financial institutions.
Financial Strategy and Planning:
Contribute to the development of the bank’s financial strategy and long-term goals.
Evaluate investment opportunities and provide financial analysis to support decision-making.
Identify cost-saving opportunities and efficiency improvements.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team to achieve performance goals and objectives.
Conduct performance evaluations and identify training and development needs.
Foster a collaborative and results-oriented work environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field. A Master’s degree or professional certification is an advantage.
Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in financial management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role, preferably in the banking or financial services industry.
Strong knowledge of financial accounting, reporting, and regulatory requirements.
Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Proven ability to manage complex financial operations and deliver results.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
